A Trello board called Brackeys Jam 2026.1 with six lists labeled, from left to right, as Doing, Must Have, Should Have, Could Have, Wish We Could Have, and Done.
We have a habit of jumping on features we think are cool before we finish core systems, so this year we've organized our Trello using MoSCoW prioritization. Our rule is we won't pull tasks from a section of the board before the section to the left of it is empty.
Brackeys Jam 2026.1 starts tomorrow, so we're resharing this thread of tips for game jammers from last year's event. If you're a seasoned game jammer and have any advice you'd like to pass along, we'd love to hear it!
#gamedev folks from the Midwest-do you have a favorite convention to attend and/or exhibit your (video) games at?
#indiedev
That's so cool! It looks great.
Several games preservation projects are in limbo now that their grants have been rescinded. Preservation is a crucial issue facing the industry right now β and without funding, some of these projects are at risk.
This looks great! I love the trailer; it made me feel a real sense of dread.
Placeholder text should look a little wrong-I've used line numbers, lorem ipsum, bright red screamy caps to hunt missing lines-because you don't want to slip it past QA. LLMs are 100% made to generate text that LOOKS right and are a great way to ship unfinished assets. Just don't.

#screenshotsaturday I now have a complete game loop for my 2.5D #platformer. I am just a main menu and pause menu away from feature complete for my prototype. Next up is figuring out some art and whiteboxing lots of levels!

#screenshotsaturday I am wrapping up the first round of prototypes for obstacles in my 2.5D #platformer. One of my favorite, both to create and play, is the homing missile. I stream on #twitch Sun - Fri 10am - 12pm CST.

I think proximity mines were a good addition to my 2.5D platformer. They encourage both speed and caution. Get too close for too long and they go off, firing deadly spikes in all directions!
#gamedev #indiedev #madewithunity #unity
Careful of the spikes! Working on death for the player in my 2.5D Platformer. Got in some spikes, going to be building some tools for #leveldesign live on my #twitch stream. #gamedev #indiedev

Didn't stream this morning so going live now for a bit. Come join me! I'll be continuing my work on my state machine and interactions. #gamedev #indiedev #twitch www.twitch.tv/jeffharperga...
Beginning a new streaming series today on #twitch. Prototyping an idea in #unity that is a mix of #osrs and #hades. Come hang out while I work on it. Going to try to maintain a more normal schedule starting with 11am - 1pm CST most days. #gamedev #indiedev www.twitch.tv/jeffharperga...
If you're looking for a stream to watch while you work today, 1/2 of our programming team @jeffharpergames.bsky.social is working on a click to move mechanic in Unity today. Catch him here: www.twitch.tv/jeffharperga...

Decided to join in the #ldjam last minute. The theme was "Depths" so I made a chill space flight game where you explore the universe, mine asteroids, upgrade your ship and discover new planets. Definitely lacks polish, but I hope you enjoy! ldjam.com/events/ludum... #gamedev #indiedev #ludumdare
For #screenshotsaturday I wanted to show off some updates to the 2000s screen saver and the camera point of interest system for interacting with different locations. Everything was modeled in #blender and implemented in #unity. #gamedev #indiedev #retro #cozy
Sooooooo close to hitting the corner!
The next #BrackeysGameJam will be held August 24th to 31st πΉοΈ Sign up now: itch.io/jam/brackeys...
We had a lot of fun making this and received some great feedback from a few mystery
and cryptography fans. If you like solving #cryptogram puzzles, definitely give Dear Penpal a play!
Reading is cool, so I created a dynamic book system that creates a book with random dimensions while maintaining the model's details (think 9-slice sprites). The book is then added to a shelf and alphabetized. Modeled in #blender and implemented with #unity. #screenshotsaturday #gamedev #indiedev
Working on a new game that requires an 2000s computer, so of course I had to make the screen saver to go with it. Anyone else way too invested in it hitting perfectly in the corner? Modeled in #blender and implemented in #unity. #gamedev #indiedev
Put together a little campfire scene made in #blender and setup in #unity. Inspired by one of my favorite games #osrs. I have a long way to go with lighting and particles, but I love the way this is looking. #gamedev #indiedev #cozy
That makes me so happy to hear! That's exactly the feeling we were going for with the puzzles, so your comments are super gratifying. Thank you for playing and commenting!
Another game jam in the books! Play our #BrackeysGameJam submission Dear Penpal. Nothing can go wrong if you like solving word games or cryptograms. π adafish.itch.io/dear-penpal #gamejam #indiedev
The #BrackeysGameJam 2025.1 has just begun! π₯ The theme is: π€ Nothing can go wrong... π€https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-13
That's so exciting! Brackeys is a great jam to start with; we've always found the vibe to be really supportive and cool. Hope you have a great jam!
Nice! Do you have a favorite theme you're hoping for?
We're all in for Brackeys Game Jam tomorrow! Do any of you have any game jam prep tips? We spend the day before a jam making sure everyone has the right version of the engine, getting an empty project on version control, and making sure everyone has access to the project.

game designers!!! the day is here! Polaris 2024 reports are released: polarisgamedesign.com/reports/
and my group's is about how and when and why you might want to make your game's characters less obedient to the player's whims: polarisgamedesign.com/2024/enrichi...
Looks really good! I like the warm-toned fog over the cool-toned; the temperature change gives it a grungy feel and differentiates it a bit more from Silent Hill style fog.
