Ta, good photo. Just out of curiosity, was that pen meant to be able to house a #8? I put vintage nibs in a couple of PenBBS 355 (a version of the CONID filling system) and had to unscrew the finial and grind off some of the bottom (that was inside cap) to allow the nib to fit without touching.

Frankenpenning can offer many rewards, even when it takes a fair bit of work. It still looks for all the world that the tip of the tines will mash into the upper finial, as the nib really isn't set very deep, but I trust you've already sussed that.
