#BREAKING: Israel just bombed right next to the ancient temple of Baalbek, a UNESCO listed site in Lebanon’s Bekaa valley

When ISIS bombed Roman temples in Palmyra, Syria, the west launched an international coalition that send them fleeing to the ends of the Earth

how is this level of illiteracy possible? surely senior officers in the US military either know from self-education or learn from on-the-job training that ethnic identity, religious affiliation, and language fluency are different?

who thinks every Christian speaks Aramaic like Jesus did?

It's looking increasingly like these guys thought that if they could wreak more death and destruction than the other side then they would be respected as strong powerful men and they would "win" and that would make them big important heroes. Very possibly they had no rationale deeper than that.

β€’ At 18:03 on Thursday, 12 February, a legal director of Shoosmiths, also acting for Aramark, emailed the CMA case officer in connection with the remedies process which was following upon the Decision. The email sought an extension to a deadline for providing comments on proposed draft undertakings. The email intimated that: "Aramark is also heavily engaged in finalising the appeal submission, which is due imminently."
β€’ At 10:43 on Friday, 13 February, Matthew Weighill, Assistant Director, Mergers, of the CMA, responded to that email by agreeing to the request for further time in relation the draft undertakings. The email also said:
"As regards a potential appeal, having had regard to Rule 25(1) of the CAT Rules and paragraphs 4.15-4.19 of the Tribunal's Guide to Proceedings, we consider that the deadline for filing an application for review under s 120 of the Enterprise Act 2002 was Spm yesterday evening (12 February 2026), and that deadline has now passed".

Oh noooo, this exchange of emails. I am in deep pain currently.

1. Hey, we need an extension on this remedies document because we’re working on the appeal.

2. Sure thing. Btw, appellate deadline was yesterday, thx.

17. At the Hearing, Ms Kreisberger KC, evidently on instructions and in the presence of Mr Bavasso, told me that the reason why the deadline was missed in this case was because the legal team working on the matter had been proceeding on an interpretation of rule 112 of the Tribunal Rules which Aramark now accepts was erroneous. She was at pains to assert that this was not a case where there had been a careless failure to meet the deadline. She told me that "minds were applied" to rule 112. She explained that Simpson Thacher & Bartlett understood the effect of rule 112(2) to be that the day on which the Report was published and notified to the parties (i.e. Thursday, 15 January 2026) should not be counted at all. Against the background of that reading of rule 112(2), they read the phrase "day during which the event or action from which the period is to be calculated occurred or took place" in rule 112(3) as referring to Friday, 16 January 2026.

Appellate lawyers: I have for you a nightmare morsel this evening. Lawyers counted the appellate deadline wrong and now a merger has to be undone.

WATCH β€” @jamestalarico.bsky.social : β€œEvery dollar we spend bombing people in the Middle East is one we’re not spending here at home. We’re always told we don’t have enough money for schools or healthcare or for veterans, but there’s always enough to bomb people on the other side of the world.”

defending art's right to exist, especially nsfw art, inherenetly involves you having to allow art you don't like or even think is abhorrent or reprehensible to exist. you do not have to pretend to like it or engage with it, but you need to let it exist. you give fascists an inch they take a mile.

Patients say measles 'worse than expected' as Utah hits 350+ infections, doctors say Health officials plead with residents to vaccinate against measles as Utah hits 358 infections.

Right. Utah is experiencing this right now - once parents see how deeply sick their kids get, they often change their tune. pretty fucked up that the kids have to suffer though www.ksl.com/article/5145...

My mom talked about being quarantined from the other kids during the summer due to polio. Small town, parents didn’t want to talk about it, she said they literally found out who had died by coming into class the first day of school and seeing the empty seats where classmates should be sitting.

11.03.2026 03:52 πŸ‘ 85 πŸ” 9 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 0

I'm somewhat tempted to do an oral history project where I just interview old people about how much child death was normalized when they were kids.

Buddy also told me a "funny" story about how his cousin was short for his age until they realized he had worms.

11.03.2026 03:45 πŸ‘ 186 πŸ” 17 πŸ’¬ 10 πŸ“Œ 3

And VERY anecdotally you see this with the measles outbreaks. When they get big enough parents start vaccinating.

Kids shouldn't have to get sick for this to happen

I've said before I have a buddy who is in his early 80s and he grew up in rural Iowa and he said kids just disappearing from school because they had died was a normal occurrence for him.

From k-12 I knew OF (only one I knew directly) three kids who died total. Two by suicide, one from cancer.

11.03.2026 03:41 πŸ‘ 185 πŸ” 17 πŸ’¬ 5 πŸ“Œ 0

The thing that I don't think they've fully grasped is because we've had two nearly three generations of adults who have been vaccinated, people are going to realize pretty quickly shit is bad when suddenly their kids are dying.

I cannot stress enough how narrow the channel is in the Strait and the fact that like. Two guys with a bass boat, a shoulder mounted rocket launcher, and a decent sense of determination could hold the thing for long enough for 6 more bass boats with 12 more guys to show up and fuck up your day.

...any of the thousands of US Navy members current and former who have transited the Strait of Hormuz while Iran trolled the ship for shits and giggles can describe for you at least 3 ways they can close the Strait without attending any briefing.

this is also my ongoing frustration. you can not run for office on "democracy is under threat" and then lose and go "oh well, nice game everyone"

they put us in a constant state of hypervigilance & terror begging for our last $5 to save the country and then they do the joint softball game.
