Terry draws on his experience as a PRU deputy head to outline how schools could be better equipped to support young people, intervening before their needs escalate and result in exclusion β a recommendation of the Who is Losing Learning coalition and now a tenet of the new Schools White Paper.
It was great to see our friend Terry Grego, former Director of Programmes at Football Beyond Borders, writing about inclusion and belonging for @schoolsweek.bsky.social last week.

πΈListen to Alan Milburn's interview on Today (from 2:12:30): www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...
πΈRead Youth Jobs Gap: Exploring Compound Disadvantage: www.impetus.org.uk/policy/youth...
As Milburn rightly said, this is a economic, social and moral problem. The data is clear, and the need for targeted, evidence-based intervention has never been more urgent.
Our research shows that certain young people will be at the sharpest end of this. Factors like being socioeconomically disadvantaged, growing up in certain geographic areas, having low qualifications, or having SEND intersect to create barriers that a "one-size-fits-all" approach simply cannot fix.
Milburnβs interview comes on the same morning that the Office for National Statistics (ONS) released figures showing youth unemployment at an 11-year high with 16% out of work.
As Milburn noted, if the nearly one million young people currently not in education, employment, or training (NEET) formed a city, it would be the third biggest in the UK.
We're glad to see the evidence from our latest Youth Jobs Gap report, "Exploring Compound Disadvantage" being used at the highest levels of government to highlight the structural failures holding young people back.
"You're 30% more likely to be NEET if you grow up in Middlesborough, or in Knowsley, than anywhere else in the country."
This morning on The Today Programme, Alan Milburn, chair of the governmentβs Young People and Work review, spoke powerfully about the "existential risk" of a lost generation.
#ICYMI, our latest blog shares insights from our Impetus Leadership Academy panel on tackling youth unemployment through the lens of race. Read to explore how evidence can translate into real, lasting change.
