r/toronto u/Mayor_OliviaChow β’ 1h β’ Verified Transit Signal Priority update News Hey r/toronto - I'm breaking the news here first. We're bringing transit signal priority to lines 5 and 6, and as of today phase 1 is done! That means a single car turning left won't hold up an LRT full of a hundred people. But we're not done yet. In the coming months, we'll be making even more enhancements to ensure TTC vehicles get the green lights transit riders deserve. These changes will make rides along Eglinton and Finch West faster. More to come on other routes. And let me know if you notice the changes! 673 ) 59 3

Col Sam Smith Park, nature reserve, & Lake Shore Yacht Club have been a major addition to the Etobicoke shoreline, going out into the Lake, attracting migratory birds, long gone flowers & plants. i agree that this could only be politically repeated at other parks, like Marie Curtis Park & others.

In response to popular demand after creating an arc diagram of rides between stations on the TTCβs Line 1, our Data Viz Lead has created one for Line 2 that displays which pairs of stations see the most trips, and which pairs have very few between them https://ow.ly/hjUa50YntwO

Lise Gonsalves 2Author Actually, this project just seems like a decoy to distract the public from the Bills the Liberals are trying to pass that take away freedoms and property from the public. Or maybe it's a test to see how docile and compliant the public is re: government overreach. Because the Alto project is ridiculous especially when more and more Canadians are suffering food security and access to medical treatment. 19m Like Reply
Alto train southern route "discussion forum" β’ Join Julia Payne β’ 2d β’ O .β’. Alternate opinions Hi neighbors, I'm here today to address those who have come here with their "alternate opinions". You seem to think we have gathered here together to share pros and cons. That your role here is to change our minds...and that suddenly we are going to have an "awakening" to your views. That you need to educate us "luddites" on your vision of the future. Your sanctimony is not landing well. So, just my opinion here...you won't be changing our minds. Most of the people who are here for that reason ala, are not neighbors or land owners in the affected area. You are not helping us. You are making us angry when we already have enough to deal with in trying to save our beautiful land. Some of us have been here for 3 and 4 generations. Some of us have invested our entire lives in this area. And "fair market value" means nothing. We are talking about our roots. We are also talking about the disruption and destruction of our roads to schools, hospitals, towns, support services, neighbors and local businesses. and in some cases, access to parts of our own land, our heritage cemeteries. We chose the peace and solitude of this place. We support the care of these lands. We support the heritage and history of these lands. We don't lecture you on how you should be living in your cities. (Mind you, we sure don't think you are doing much for your homeless populations.) You will not be happy here in this community.

Mark Forrester I don't own affected land or anything but I do have questions about the feasibility of the ALTO HSR. It seems to me that the time this HSR is complete, it will likely be obsolete! Consider that in 10 years most transportation could be autonomous (and electric). This means vehicle density & speed limits on 400 series highways will be able to increase significantly. The taxpayers cost of this is zero. Maybe add a lane for trucks. 2d Like Reply 2 Boucharded Brigitte Mark Forrester exactly! I've been saying this for years. Get trucks their own separated from cars, lane and that's already half the battle. You are absolutely on the right track with autonomous driving cars taking over in the next decade, that will likely prevent most human error caused accidents. 1d Like Reply
ANTO Alto train southern route "discussion forum" . Join Cindy Zajac β’ Mar 3 β’ Patricia Foam I look at each person's profile. Some have nothing, showing 5 followers - doesn't even say privacy and only friends can see. Makes me think bots. But the rest aren't agitators or bots - look at their profiles. They live close to Toronto, Ottawa and or Montreal. Other than those I suspect of being bots most of the supporters are urbanites from a big city. And those not in Toronto are near Peterborough one of the rare proposed stops. They want this, because for them it's only a win. Won't be their back yards, their house value, their farms or their parks upended. And since these big cities have more Uber/taxi/train etc than we do they are all about get rid of cars. They don't understand or respect rural communities. Their interaction with farmers is probably only at the local farmer market for organic produce. It really shows there is a big divide hidden in plain sight in Ontario, and it's not a political one. It's a city versus rural one. This conflict is making that pretty visible. 1w Like Reply 4 Kerri Lynne Patricia Foam some have their profile private as of you standup against the maple maga you are personally targeted 6d Like Reply Sarah Mc Mullen Kerri Lynne you do realize that not all the people opposed to this are conservative right? The discourse on the insane facebook pages against high speed rail in Ontario somehow manage to blame the deep state, the liberals, the corporations (mostly owned by conservatives) city people, class traitor country people, and homeless people. Oh, and we wont need this because AI cars are coming.
#OttCity staff have claimed that permitting drivers to turn right on red is actually safer for pedestrians.

In 1972, the US had more metro lines per capita than Canada, France, or Germany. Now, it's below all of them. It only has 50% of Canada's per-capita metros.
In 1990, 4 of the worldβs 14 longest metros were in the US. Today, not a single US network sits on that list.

We know FOR SURE that there are huge pollution, climate, health, equity, and public/personal cost consequences connected to continued car dependency from all the highway, road-widening & parking CONSTRUCTION supporting more vehicles, whether they are EV or not.
