Sounds delightful. As for a collective noun for Oxford dons. Hmmm. Thinking back to my time in academia, and assuming most academics follow along similar lines, ...
A murmur of dons when in an academic setting?
A gossip of dons when in a social setting?
A pedantry of dons when at a conference?

At this point it's barely even a boycott, I've just stopped thinking of Target as a place to buy the things I used to buy at Target.

Ethical non monogamy is emotionally exhausting because its 25% scheduling, 50% everyone dealing with feelings 20% bullshit and 5% sexytimes . Give or take.
But the ethical part requires that 75%. Else you're just lying to yourself and others and cheating on all sorts of relationships

This picture freaks me out for another reason: US archaeology has OSHA requirements. These chuckleheads look like theyโre digging down with zero consideration for safe egress or cave-in protections. ๐ฌ ๐ท๐ปโโ๏ธ๐บ

Screenshot from 1960s Japanese movie Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster. A serious-looking man in a suit is explaining his latest idea. Subtitle reads 'It may sound primitive and unscientific, but through the fairies, we could ask Mothra to help.'

Census sheet.
First line is Hannah Craige, age 73, "Gentlewoman" born in England, worth a healthy 4000 dollars, and labeled "Insane"
Living next to her is John Turner (54), his wife Eliza (40), their daughter Francis (18) and someone named John Coursey (45). John Turner was born in Mass and is a Seaman. Eliza was born in St. Domingo, West Indies. Their daughter, Francis, is a washerwoman and was born in Pennsylvania. John and his family are also Black. Free Blacks living in Philadelphia, John was born in Mass around 1806. Was he born free, or did he gain his freedom? You wonder if he met his wife while sailing to the West Indies or had she moved to the US? So many questions.
And these were not at all my John and Eliza Turner, though I had run into Eliza's death info and wondered why she was 10 years older than what I thought. But she and my eliza died 10 days apart and are both buried in Fernwood cemetery.
It's amazing the glimpses of stories you run across in this kind of research.
Looking up John Turner and wife Eliza in Philly, and found a second one. A lot going on here in the 1860 census.

Iโm a BoomerX (1963) with a GenZ kid. Iโve tried to expose him to the classics. He can recognize Louis Armstrong& Frank Sinatra in one line, and can differentiate disco from New Wave. He knows Monty Python, The Blues Brothers, and Elvis. Iโm trying.

Please put back translate to how it used to be, inline translate is so bad.

How Much Did It Cost to Paint a Pompeii Room Egyptian Blue?
The price of covering a room in the prized pigment was equal to between 50% and 90% of a Roman legionary's annual salary, a new study estimates.
My latest for @hyperallergic.com is on Egyptian Blueโ& a new study by Mishael Quraishi which prices out the Roman cost & manual labor needed to paint the โBlue Roomโ at Pompeii. Shout outs & thx: @hilarybeckertxny.bsky.social , @diffendale.bsky.social , @chapps.bsky.social, @valentinadl.bsky.social!

Photographs of a dinosaur-looking bird, the shoebill, and popstar Sabrina Carpenter, overlaid with a height comparison showing both are 152 cm, with visual graphics saying the magazine's name SSWAGGER and some Chinese characters
Photographs of a shoebill and popstar Sabrina Carpenter overlaid with a height comparison showing that, yes indeed, both are just 152 cm
I can't even begin to describe this photograph. I think that might be Taylor Swift on a night out with Sabrina Carpenter. But Sabrina is photoshopped to have a shoebill face and talons, with wing-tips coming out her coat but still Sabrina's hair
Just incredible shoebill awareness-raising from this Hong Kong teens' magazine

Oil portrait of a young man dressed in high neckcloth, black coat and high-collared white waistcoat. He is turned to the viewer's left while his body faces 3/4 right. He has short hair, prominent but pointed nose, and pink cheeks. He has a semi-serious look on his face staring off to the viewer's left.
Peregrine Williamson's medal from the Mechanic's Institute for "an Improved Gold Pen" which I never knew he had invented.
"Awarded to P. Williamson for an Improved Gold Pen September, 1838"
This was towards the end of his life, a period I knew almost nothing about.
Love this! I published an article about a forgotten inventor and manufacturer in Baltimore, c1805-1820s named Peregrine Williamson. One of his descendants wrote to me and share a photo of his original oil portrait and all kinds of non-public info. It was a researcher's dream come true.
