Carter seems to suggest that the issue is not Christian nationalism but which *kind* of Christian nationalism. My response, which is also the implicit argument of my book, is that, no, Christian nationalism is itself the problem and we criticize every form it takes.
The headline is a bit misleading. What Carter actually says is that we should stop using CN as a rhetorical weapon. But this is where I demur: I don't want a liberal CN any more than a conservative CN. I largely agree with the policies of the liberal version, but I think we should oppose both.
Heath Carter's new article discussing Matthew Sutton's new book, Chosen Land, is an excellent and provocative piece pointing out something that I argue in my last book: the mainline liberal Protestants of today were the "Christian nationalists" of yesterday.

We are calling on ICE to immediately release journalist Estefany Rodriguez, who has covered immigration, including ICE actions, for the Spanish-language news site Nashville Noticias.

As we have long suspected, the NYT is committed to not understanding anything about writing’s critical connection to human agency.
Or perhaps should I say, “Commitments were made to misunderstand the point of cognition and communication (leaving hundreds dead)”
As an IR professor, it's depressing that this is outperforming all others as the best theory of US foreign policy
I wish more of them would be honest and say this. Folks like Deneen and Hazony basically say exactly this but in 30k words and obscured by political theory jargon.
I drink a homemade hand-pressed espresso and I have some thoughts about Edmund Burke.
Everyone talking about the iPhone but it’s the Mac apps that really upset me. The iWork enshittification is really astounding to me.
Very good advice and insights here.
THREAD: I got laid off from NYMag/Vulture after 14 years. The family lost 75% of income + medical. Now mzs.press bookstore, once a side project. is do-or-die for Judith & I. I feel weird telling you this because others are doing much worse. But if you could like or share this, we'd be so grateful!
Hey! The stupidest, most malevolent people ever to be in charge of the U.S. are creating geopolitical havoc right now and killing people all over the place
Stop pretending that this is anything else, or that there is an equivalent "other side," there is not, this is a world-historical calamity
Hungary beating the US on LGBTQ+ acceptance is really funny for folks like Dreher and Pappin who fled the “woke” wasteland of the US for their utopian vision of Christian Europe.
When people complain about Bluesky, they’re referring to comments like yours.
I generally avoid talking about idiocracy, but this is damning evidence of the stoopidization of the US government.
Adding this to my examples of “you can make the Bible support anything.”

These are precarious times for nonfiction publishers. Getting the word out is harder than ever now. I highly recommend that people sign up to receive newsletters and other information directly from the publishers who put out stuff you like. You’ll also hear about bonus discounts and other deals.
Aaron Renn first published this in First Things over a month ago. That’s how low WaPo has fallen. They’re getting the hand-me-downs from the Catholic integralists.
I really hope so. Unfortunately, the difficulty of getting any peer review reports these days is only going to lead more publishers to resort to AI, which will have a spiral effect that hurts all of us.
I find these stories so upsetting. This is editorial malpractice. Any editor worth their salt should have rejected this report before it ever went to the author.
Authors: Please, just don’t use AI.

NEWS: President Trump says Sec. Kristi Noem is out at DHS.
Trump also says that Oklahoma Sen. Markwayne Mullin will be his next nominee for secretary of DHS, although Trump doesn't word it that way.
Finally, he says Noem will have a new federal role in a new initiative soon to be announced.

A screenshot of the Polymarket website showing a prediction market titled "Nuclear weapon detonation by...?" under the Geopolitics and Ukraine categories. The market displays three betting options with their current probabilities and "Buy Yes" or "Buy No" prices: "March 31" at 5%, "June 30" at 12%, and "Before 2027" at 22%. The total trading volume shown is over $843,000.
Polymarket has created a betting market on the use of nuclear weapons. Everyone involved in this should be put in prison for life.
