That's wonderful you shared that! I think I came up with this nickname/alias on IRC in around 1995 just stuck with it! I think I did find there were some other people who had the same name afterwards.

Thanks for sharing and also appreciate you changed to a more unique name! Where are you based?

I'm thinking you'll still get your sanding when you realize 90% of owning robots is plugging them into the right charging cable.

Thank you!! Yes you should try to come try it. Though the snow seasons are getting shorter and shorter. Riding japanese powder is so different from what I was used. But you have to try it to be able to do it. Maybe you'll get it straight away.

Thank you! It's getting there ... maybe a few more weeks and will be back to normal.

I'm learning a lot about the boards, but also the culture and people.

So here it is: a living archive of Japanese snowboards, those boards designed for riding that Japanese snow.

I dislocated my knee a month ago snowboarding, and so I've been channelling all my frustration and energy into building this big site about Japanese snowboards.
The world of Japanese snowboards is very fragmented and not so well documented, but also huge and fascinating.

As a fun experiment, while redesigning my website again this year, I wondered what would happen if I could navigate my website using terminal commands. Today, I got it working after a few attempts:

Preparing for the new snow season with major updates to my snowline.jp site. Added loads more webcams, better snow data and even resort opening dates.

Sigma is a Japanese manufacturer of photographic lenses and cameras. Our production is based entirely in Japan, with our headquarters in Kanagawa and our factory in Aizu, Fukushima.
We have been a family-owned company since our founding by Michihiro Yamaki in 1961. Today, Sigma is managed by his son, Kazuto Yamaki. It is this independence that allows us to explore different approaches and pursue our ideal of craftsmanship.
Our Aizu factory was established in 1973. To this day, it remains Sigma's sole manufacturing base, with every step of production - from initial concept to optical engineering, product assembly, quality control and even parts sourcing - taking place in Japan. Although not without its challenges, this conscious decision ensures seamless collaboration across departments and partner companies, quick response times and rigorous quality control at every stage of production. Our deep ties to the Tohoku region, particularly Aizu, have allowed us to become part of the local community, to support its culture, to advance local technology, and to nurture the expertise of our employees.

For many years, I have wanted to get a Sigma fp camera. Now I even want it more after finding out how they build everything in Aizu, Fukushima.

I feel like I should also launch an AI browser. AI browser is the new todo list.

Everyone thinks everyone wants one, but actually we all secretly hate it.

I like AI slop and I cannot lie Posted on Friday 26 Sep 2025. 876 words, 9 links. By Matt Webb.

AI as a ghost is pretty wonderful. It's not alive but it some how can do things that normal humans can't, yet has some fatal flaws. Stuck in pergatory or on a device.

@genmon.fyi writes about this:

Yeah I've done it only with Google APIs, they are still the best placedb in the world.

The way the app works is it queries once for the place info and stores it for use locally on the device.

17.09.2025 10:39 ๐Ÿ‘ 2 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

that's cool. is that something that often happens?

I feel though with LLMs now, you can get at least close to interpreting how to query the db if you had the data.

Found that these coding agents are great at writing code, but really bad at coming up with good UX. Most of my interventions were making it use standard components, fixing icons, placement, etc.

Also it got stuck on integration with the Activity Recognition API which took a full day to resolve.

Another #vibecoding update. Spent the long weekend making an Android app of my dreams . A check-in & location timeline app that allows me to check in post visit. Did so much I ran out of quota on Claude Pro that I decided to try out Codex (w/ ChatGPT Plus) and Gemini CLI.

I've never heard of a Sodium Ion rechargable battery, but apparently that's something you can buy now in Japan. More expensive than Lithium Ion but way more charge cycles (5000): www.elecom.co.jp/pickup/conte...

Another vibe coded experiment. Imagine if you had a browser that could only access pages from an LLM. Give it any URL, even completely made up ones and it'll show you.

(Nearly) daily vibe coding: I've been making changes every day but haven't been posting about it. I've got to the point where the UI is more refined after a lot of specifying how the UX should be. The more I do, the more features I want to add!
