I’m not sure most politicians see themselves as different from the ultra wealthy. As soon as they are elected they have guaranteed income for 4-6 years and access to wealth accumulation. They enter the asset class.
Not sure what this means but people need homes not shelters. The problem is financialization-start by curbing rents, raising the minimum wage, fining vacancies, and building public housing.

I have done all of the following-protesting, contacting reps, boycotting, attending local political meetings, phone banking, making political art and I have no idea what is the most effective but my two Democratic Senators do not seem responsive-no competition.
In certain states and with specific reps calling and writing works. I’ve done plenty of it this last year with mixed results. It’s not the only thing I do and it’s impossible to know what actions are the most effective. You have no idea what people who post are in fact doing.
The message is calling representatives you do not trust to ask them to do the right thing may not be a good use of your time. This is valid. So is calling your representatives in hopes they will do the right thing. Two opposing arguments can both be true.

Progressive politics asks us to engage in change whereas conservatism urges us to do nothing but consume and accrue power. One requires moral courage and the other sloth. Many liberals were enticed by the accumulation of social power for their group which only required inaction to achieve.
A sophisticated disinformation campaign by “liberal” media contributes to the ratchet effect using moral panics aimed at transgender people, women, socialism etc. all designed to imply things have gone “too far”. Ezra Klein is a contributor. We need to understand why these are so effective.
