I'm familiar with the work of the folks behind the Dark Forest Collective/Metalabel/etc, but curious what they're cooking up with this
Toni has been an advisor to us for years, and it's an honor to have him come in to lead us into this next phase 🚀
forever grateful to jay for pulling our little team together & making bluesky a reality 💙
i got to have a long chat with @toni.bsky.team and walked away convinced that he understands the atmosphere & is committed to our mission of open social
big things ahead & stoked for everything to come!
Jay seized a historical moment and speed-ran Bluesky through some wild times. I'm glad she's found her own way back to the big picture.
have had great conversations with @toni.bsky.team about standards work and open source governance. very important to have continuity of clueful leadership!
Thank you, Jay! None of this would exist without you.
Big day! @jay.bsky.team will remain deeply involved as CIO and I'm personally excited she's dedicating more time on the future of atproto.
I'm also very pleased that @toni.bsky.team is joining us as the interim CEO. He seems like a thoughtful, experienced person who cares about the open internet.
Some personal news: I’m transitioning from CEO to a new role as Bluesky’s Chief Innovation Officer! I’m excited to welcome @toni.bsky.team as our interim CEO.

Heeey, look, it's me!
I'm super hyped to announce that @bsky.app have given me a grant to work on the standards for the Federated Credential Management API (or FedCM) to make them really work for all decentralized web applications.
if it's from Ian you know it's good shit
Blacksky migrated to their new app view last week and then released the code this week. Hard to overstate how impressive that is, for @rude1.blacksky.team and team it was a ~~Tuesday~~ Sunday.
it's kinda magical
lol same
having used claude extensively for the past couple of months, i think there is still a lot of value to understanding your code and steering it intentionally. the amount of incidental complexity claude accumulates otherwise (which mostly results in bugs that it can't ever fix reliably) is staggering.
Was just dropping in to post this too, found this one fascinating. Also spoiled parts of the Oppenheimer movie for me :P
We're rolling out a change in image format.
If you see some images taking a second to load today, that's expected.
shoutout to @ds.bsky.team for adding inline translation to the app.
Bluesky is international. people who speak any language should feel welcome here, and easy translation helps make that happen.
shoutout to @thepope.dev for this update — we've been wanting to simplify this for a long time
custom feeds are part of what make Bluesky unique. lots more we can improve here, and we will!
making progress on pds.js tangled.org/chadtmiller...., there's something to be said about starting with the simplest possible implementation and working your way up from there. the core logic, at least, is zero dep, with a hexagonal architecture that allows different functionality via ports/adapters
we infrequent posters need to stay strong
welcome @doctorow.pluralistic.net!
on your own PDS host (bsky.pluralistic.net), using did:web (did:web:pluralistic.net), and self-controlled domain handle.
looks like things are working/interoperating; let us (the atmosphere ecosystem) know if you run in to any issues
made a quick pit stop in Dependency Hell today, was not a fan
tapping the sign
Hey devs! Heads up, we're planning on making some changes to our image CDN tomorrow.
- Images will be served as WebP by default
- The URL format you get from the Bluesky API will change a little
You can look forward to an announcement about image quality soon 👀
this is huge! it's a big lift just to do the backfill indexing, but even more to get it operational and chase down all the little product affordances.
blacksky ships.
Personal news update: I'm delighted to announce that as of today, I am an actual Bluesky employee! I'll be working to welcome indie media and local govt to Bsky—and supporting those already here.
I'll always want to hear your thoughts on how we can make Bsky the sort of social media we all want!
today, we're announcing our €3,8M ($4.5M) seed financing round, led by byFounders with participation from Bain Capital Crypto, Antler, Thomas Dohmke (former CEO of GitHub), Avery Pennarun (CEO of Tailscale) among other incredible angels.
