phone vendors *otherwise* would want to fork the kernel (if there was no stable driver ABI)
i used to joke that our old OS project needed a stable driver ABI because phone vendors want to fork the kernel and βwe as a civilization donβt know how to rebase.β funny that thatβs no longer true
loved this!

maybe a hot take, maybe a lukewarm one:
i think weβve already crested the transformers + flash attention + KVcache performance S-curve and I think 100b parameters will be enough for interactive LLM use cases with the right harnesses

Here's a tiny bit of hopium:
In 2024 we were planning on adding 160 GW of renewable energy to the grid by 2030.
As of the start of this year, we had added 100 GW and are planning on adding 220 GW more by 2030.
(In 2022 we planned for 60 GW in 2030. We hit that by the end of 2023)
On one end, the Anthropic team is a massive user of AI to write code (80%+ of all code deployed is written by Claude Code). They ship amazingly fast.
On the other hand, seeing these beyond terrible reliability numbers suggests there might be a downside to all this speed:
but what about the plankton :,(
this is awesome!
i'm curious what the "default" model served to people when they go to chatgpt.com is - currently I think that's "GPT-5.2-Instant" - is that the same as "GPT-5.2" in 25th place on this graph?
i quit watching basketball a few years later and remembering that i'd gotten to see this as it happened (along with the 2016 Finals) made me feel like my basketball life was complete

The Legend of Zelda was principally inspired by Shigeru Miyamoto's "explorations" as a young boy in the hillsides and forests surrounding his childhood home in Sonobe, Japan. According to Miyamoto, one of his most memorable experiences was finding a cave entrance in the middle of the woods.[88] After some hesitation, he entered the cave and explored its depths with the aid of a lantern. Miyamoto has referred to the creation of the Zelda games as an attempt to bring to life a "miniature garden" for players to play with in each game of the series.[89]
Whenever you make great art, you risk creating a surrogate experience for your audience that displaces the original.
