Wrote about how Apocalypse Hotel, through a bumpy creative process, accumulated many artistic lineages & viewpoints. Just like its story about a hotel operating after the end of the world, it thrives thanks to everything that a curious group of people left behind blog.sakugabooru.com/2026/01/02/a...

readings this week: Zen Koans by Steven Heine (2014) and Neighborhood Tokyo by Theodore Bestor (1989)

Today's Reading: Your Inner Fish by Neil Shubin (2009)
Masterclass in scicom. Takes topics that could be extremely dry and technical evolutionary biology and makes them feel almost conversational. Super pleasant break from all the textbook reading
Today's reading: How Languages are Learned by Lightbrown & Spada (4e, 2017)
Definitely aimed more at educators, but does a lot of work simplifying the many competing fields in SLA and turning them into some actionable teaching practice. May also be useful for some self-directed learners
recent readings and re-readings to help establish what kinds of things I'm all about
much of what I read is stuff I can cheaply pilfer from used bookstores, thrift stores, or is otherwise given to me after a quarter ends and people no longer need textbooks
I've updated and considerably expanded my Linguistics Starter Pack for anyone new to bluesky or if you just want more linguistics in your feed!
Still likely missing some people so let me know about other linguistics-related starter packs or accounts!
