Today marks the start of games in minor league camp, which will primarily be played against the Twins this year.
Given the number of players still in MLB camp (esp. due to the WBC), as always, the affiliate to which players are assigned now does not necessarily indicate where they'll be this year.
Part of the package in the Oviedo trade from the Pirates, Samaniego is a tall lefty reliever who touches 97 with his fastball. He bounced back effectively from internal brace surgery in ‘24, earning him a 40-man spot. Looks to be in the mix for MLB bullpen innings in ‘26.

The Red Sox drafted Cason as a 2-way player in 2024, spending $1.25 million to bring the 8th-rounder into the fold. After two games at short and one on the mound in ‘25, he suffered an elbow injury. Only 8 months post-Tommy John, Cason has been working out in the field in spring training.
⬇️
A 4th-round pick of the Yankees in 2024, Ziehl has been traded twice in the last year. The White Sox acquired him at the ‘25 deadline, then flipped him to Boston this winter in the David Sandlin deal. Ziehl is a control artist who mixes his pitches well, with his sweeper the best of his arsenal.

We move into the top half of our countdown with our second straight catcher drafted in 2025 and then traded to Boston in the offseason. Guzman, a strong defensive backstop with a good plate approach, was a 5th rounder from Arizona who came to the Sox in the Oviedo deal.

Before @IanCundall and @MikeAndrewsSP can pack their bags for Spring Training, there's a lot to unpack. From the backfields of Fort Myers to the global stage of the World Baseball Classic.

Acquired at the Rule 5 deadline from Seattle, Heyman was a 2025 14th rounder who got an overslot $230K bonus. A bat-first catcher with real pop, he was hitting .301/.397/.578 with Florida before breaking his forearm in May. That production was still enough for All SEC 1st team honors.

🔗 Franklin Primera scouting report:

Primera rocketed up the rankings late in 2025 after a strong performance in the Dominican Summer League. After signing out of Venezuela in September ‘24 for only $10K, Primera hit .333/.465/.430 with only 15 strikeouts in 172 PA...

Silverio is the second 2026 IFA and the youngest player on the countdown. The recipient of a $1.4M bonus, he has a smooth, natural left-handed swing that produces natural power. Already 6’1”, 200, Silverio likely projects as a corner outfielder who could mash.
⬇️
The first of two 2026 IFA on the top 60, Brito received a $1.2M bonus. A 17-year-old from Santo Domingo, he shows advanced plate discipline, quick hands, and easy athleticism that should allow him to be a strong defender even if he grows off of shortstop.
⬇️
The Red Sox love their big pitchers, and Wehunt might be the biggest. 6’7”, 240, and with a background in chicken farming, he rose quickly in ‘24, reaching Double-A in his first pro season. He got off to another strong start in '25 before battling some injuries and inconsistency in the second half.
He pitched only 6 times in ‘25 due to a shoulder issue, fanning 27 and posting a 3.26 ERA in 19.1 IP.
🔗 Brady Tygart scouting report:

Tygart is the second former Razorback on the countdown. A consensus top-200 prospect in the ‘24 draft, a checkered injury history dropped him to the 12th round, where he got an overslot $300K bonus.

🔗 Yophery Rodriguez scouting report:
www.soxprospects.com/players/rodr...
Rodriguez, part of the package Boston got last April in exchange for Quinn Priester, checks in at #37. What he lacks in flashy tools, Rodriguez makes up for with an advanced, patient approach that belies the fact that he only turned 20 in December.
