I enjoyed the hell out of Gorillaz' latest music video, THE MOUNTAIN, THE MOON CAVE, AND THE SAD GOD (to promote the latest album, THE MOUNTAIN)! The animation is breathtaking! (Some scenes even used cel animation, much to my surprise!) Gorillaz music videos are always an event for me.
Surprise present of the day!
(Thanks, Peter!)
First city building! Working on more now!

And think about it; if kids can spell and pronounce βSchwarzenegger,β they should have no trouble doing the same for Spanish and even Japanese.
Exactly!
Another character(s) finally finished!

It was 50 years ago today when we lost the great jazz musician Vince Guaraldi. π’
Vinceβs friends and colleagues look back on that sad day.

A more famous Cassidy than I'll ever be! π
Over 20 years ago, I saw a documentary on Hopalong Cassidy on TCM, I think, and I found the history and praise very fascinating. Your video essay is also very well done, Bob!
Last night, in honor of its 60th Anniversary yesterday, I watched the first two episodes of BATMAN β66 from my Blu-Ray set, and I love it as much as ever! One of my favorite shows of all time! Other American live-action superhero shows donβt come close.
As far as Iβm concerned, when it comes to Godzilla home video releases here in America, these four are the absolute finest! Not just in feature presentations, but the impressive number of extras in these releases! Theyβre satisfying enough for casual viewers, let alone fans.
Theyβre my favorite band of all time! My mom and big sister raised me on the Beatles at an early age.
I still fondly remember another documentary, THE COMPLEAT BEATLES. We still have the VHS we bought of that!
As you can tell, my copies of MARKALITE have worn over the years, but have nonetheless been greatly invaluable in my research of tokusatsu, the different genres, the fandom, and its connections to anime. I wish this magazine lasted longer! It was *exactly* what I needed.
On January 6, 1991, I bought stuff from my trip to NYC Creation Con, including this magazine. (And the second issue on January 5th of the next year.) These are among my favorite magazines of all time, and thanks to these, I became a tokusatsu fan (even though I always was).
Today is January 2nd, marking the 60th anniversary of Ultra Q and by extension the Ultra series.
Another late Christmas presentβ¦ π
It was 35 years ago this coming Tuesday (January 6, 1991), when I discovered tokusatsu fandom after discovering more tokusatsu besides Godzilla. Here are two main characters from REKIRA THE SUPER-MONSTER reenacting MARKALITE Magazineβs effect on my life.
Tomorrow (January 2nd), Tsuburaya's Ultra Series franchise turns 60 (when ULTRA Q premiered in 1966)! (And SPECTREMAN turns 55!) So my original kaiju, Rekira, gets his own silhouette in the style of the original 1966 ULTRAMAN show! Drawn on tablet in FireAlpaca.
Here's my final work of 2025!
Drawn on tablet in FireAlpaca, here's the Olympus Key Staff (secretly the Dynamic Heralds), the main characters of my kaiju project, Rekira the Super-Monster, wishing everyone a very Happy New Year!
#RekiraTheSuperMonster #DynamicHeralds
It's been a long time since I've ever drawn myself, but since this Gen X-er turned 50 not too long ago, here's a quick cartoon self-portrait I did for the occasion! Drawn on tablet in FireAlpaca.
My final art of the year will be posted shortly!
Seeing Episode #12 (the banned episode, βFrom Another Planet With Loveβ) of ULTRASEVEN (Tsuburaya; 1967) in its purest, rawest form has given me a greater appreciation for this scarce, even subversive episode! It was very brave of Tsuburaya Productions to briefly post it online.
A couple more Christmas presentsβ¦ π
Awesome!
