Portland should aim for a minimum 2% average annual growth rate. People already want to live in Portland, we just need to make it cheap and easy to build homes. πŸ—οΈπŸ™οΈπŸŒ²πŸš²πŸ¦«

pretty funny that the only way to get from seattle to salem on the 29th is to pay 71 dollars for a 23 hr layover in portland because every single other trip is sold out

Always remember: the culture war is a tool used by the ruling class to keep the working class divided against itself, preventing a unified front toward fine-grained walkable urbanism, with large, cross-ventilated apartments and convenient elevators.

First bill of its kind in the US! πŸ‘πŸ‘

Int’l code harmonization, cut out of this, was opposed by one (1) interest group: the Big Four elevator companies whose outsize profits are protected by the US’s unique code.

Let’s win the whole loaf in Oregon in 2027 & build the accessible homes we’ll need

The Canada Line cost about the same per mile as the Orange Line, but unlike the Orange Line it:

β€’ is frequent
β€’ has quite a lot of TOD around stations
β€’ directly serves neighborhoods and destinations
β€’ has really good connecting bus service with efficient transfers

Yeah, that'd help with the statistics, but we gotta be fr. Construction costs of $230,000 per daily rider is not an efficient use of capital spending.

Just noticing that the photo from Seattle PBOT shows as an example of new upgrades they plan to make on NW/SW Broadway (adding planters in bike lane protection buffer zone) are behind Seattle since they've already upgraded the planters to full medians!

I see, I misunderstood what the fee was targeting

Fine with the utility fee, but can we please not levy another fee on new construction?

What's the project budget now? Like, what are they even spending money on?

So apparently the TV HWY Transit Project has been watered down even further--TriMet says they're only going to be using 40' buses: that means NO ARTICS on a fucking FX ROUTE! This project will have:
- no dedicated ROW
- no signal priority
- no 60-footers

It's literally just a bus... a green bus.

It’s really amazing how many stops on the orange line are so close to serving important locations but are just far enough away to not actually serve those locations.

Lynn Peterson bravely asked:

"What if we had a measure that funds a light rail line, a freeway to Damascus, an overpass by the airport, and a random assortment of "corridors" with the promise of some vague "improvements?"

Would that excite voters?

08.03.2026 04:09 πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Lynn Peterson was so real for throwing a bunch of random business owners and politicos into a room to smash together some random assortment of vague, unrelated projects to put on the ballot.

The best way to sell a vision to voters is definitely to start without a vision!

Throwback to that time during the development of the 2020 transportation measure that ClackCo chair Jim Bernard deadass said that the future for McLoughlin Blvd should be Cruse Way.

What a visionary

Holy hell the Orange line has such bad performance.

08.03.2026 03:35 πŸ‘ 5 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 0

It's infuriating that fixing the cars parked in the way problem is basically free... just put concrete blocks in the parking strip and a no parking sign.

But that would mildly inconvenience a small handful of drivers, and some business owners would be upset.

my pitch to other transit advocates: streetcars are probably worth building at similar infrastructure standards to the yellow line or to european tram systems. more mixed traffic, parking-adjacent streetcar lines, like we're planning for in montgomery park? probably not worth it

Its... better than nothing, but a streetcar running in mixed traffic next to on-street parking is not a very effective transit service. Ultimately NW needs a proper MAX line in a subway.

Update: Portland Design Commission Unanimously Accepts Revised Master Plan for the Lloyd Center Mall People talked about the mall as a public asset to the community… the trick is that it’s a privately owned and operated building, and it has an outsized negative effect on the outside of it...

The Portland Design Commission unanimously accepted the Revised Primary Master Plan for the Lloyd Center Mall, pushing the massive project one small step forward.
