Coincidence or some theme?

Kate Winslett is the only high-profile foreign actor to nail the Aussie accent - in The Dressmaker (which is a fantastic film that deliberately jumps genres every 20 minutes or so) but it was her second go at it. The first was, I think, Hideous Kinky about deprogramming and her accent was... fine

It's revenge for the shitty job Americans do with our accents. I mean it takes a lot to make me feel bad for the British but hearing a Yank riddling their attempts with a barrage of wild glottal stops and a smattering of nine different dialects does it every time.

I'm just re-reading the Hitchhiker's series now and I can't exactly quantify the difference underlying it, but it seems like maybe Pratchett when he really found his niche highlighted absurdity by grounding his stories in realism, while Adams just swung for the fences with anything being fair game?

I'd forgotten the throwaway gag that Zaphod had his extra arm added to help him in his ski-boxing, which I think must have been a nice little jab at the weird combination of sports that resulted in the biathlon being skiing and shooting, somehow.

There’s a one minute sequence in his season of The Terror that was literally breath-taking.
To avoid spoilers I’ll describe it as a dream sequence and that’s sort of true but also not.

I remember seeing his Dead Dad years ago (as part of a larger exhibition of his) which seemed to be the start of his hyper-realistic works if I recall.
