PHOENIX – Representative Junelle Cavero commended school staff and students in her district for their quick actions today that resulted in two students being detained by Phoenix Police for bringing a firearm onto campus. A student at Sunland STEAM Academy, a K-8 school in the Roosevelt School District in South Phoenix, tipped off school officials. No one was threatened or harmed as the school was placed on a temporary lockdown and the weapon confiscated, according to a district statement. "Our community is exceptionally grateful to the student who saw something and bravely said something. That helped avoid a potentially dangerous situation," Cavero said. "The quick reaction by staff and Phoenix Police, and the care shown for students and staff who needed additional support afterwards, should also be commended."
