More a jazz and easy listening Liberal than a classical Liberal. Cricket (Northants fan), literature, economics, politics & anything that takes my fancy.

It’s been written about so much, but it seems to have been put on the β€˜too hard to do, and expensive’ pile.

I wonder how many employers actually want people in the workplace who aren’t fit to work. Personally, I’d rather they concentrated on getting well again.

When some youngster dies in terrible circumstances it’s always saddening. A young life lost, a family mired in grief. This one was particularly painful.

A sad case.

Profile: Allan Massie | Henry Jeffreys | The Critic Magazine Massie was like Charles Moore, Philip Hensher, Julian Barnes and Simon Barnes all rolled into one β€” though much better than that sounds.

Allan Massie wrote more than 3,000 reviews, 25 novels, and some of the finest historical fiction of the post-war era, yet he never quite received the recognition he deserved, thecritic.co.uk/profile-alla...

It’s rare for me to agree with Conservative MPs these days, but yes.

1. Reading this glorious piece by @bondhack.ft.com , I can’t help but be reminded of the famous Czech writer and perennial optimist, Franz Kafka.

I’m a huge fan. Seem to be mostly forgotten about nowadays, which is a shame.

I’m quite disappointed that Uncle the Elephant hasn’t yet been suggested for a banknote. After all, he’s all about plutocracy and benign neglect.

They have long been a superficial fanfaronade. They’re now like Tony Slattery’s Phoney Cattery. Nothing but a fabrication of illusion and artifice.

Here you go, @eddavey.libdems.org.uk
This is how you should do it. Sheesh.

Just wait...the Bank of England is going to announce that the animals are actually the cast of Peter Rabbit, Wind of the Willows, Animals of Farthing Wood, WE3, Bing the Bunny, and some furry hentai and they will have truly built the multigenerational progressive coalition this country needs

I wonder if Elizabeth Fry reading to prisoners (2002-16) would be considered too "woke" 25 years later!

As in flies around everywhere, stench of burning, random and directionless. Occasional bystanders getting wounded. Being able to write well is a reflection of being able to think well.

To add to this, my take on the Bouie vs ChatGPT-Williams wars is one is an elegant, comprehensible writer, and the other writes like shrapnel.

Ah, ok. Thanks. Btw for amusement purposes, I was getting my hair cut today and another customer said he’d seen me at the cricket, and asked me if I was a jazz musician by profession. Looks like if you dress reasonably well at the county ground you’re judged incorrectly.

We're investigating a firm called MP Estate Planning, which sells trusts to save elderly people from the "modern threats" of divorce, bankruptcy, care home fees and inheritance tax.

We believe the trusts don't work.

If you've come across the firm, please get in touch.

This is particularly painful for me, as I’ve got 15 or so world class shoe manufacturers within a 15 mile radius.

These people manage to combine being pathetic weirdos *and* sinister. Which, up until now, is unusual.
