The OfS is a lousy vehicle for making calls on this.

As someone in France right now, I concur, it is drastically underestimated I expect this has the potential to damage the US image worse than the Iraq War did. My generation didn’t think it possible.

In the opinion piece of the Guardian today, an argument that US democracy has long collapsed and oligarchy had long been the rule. Is this the fruit of the poisoned tree? This is a focus on rebuilding - arguing that the US is already in the aftermath (I would argue the blast is imminent, rather).
