I finally lost my shit about so-called AIs, LLMs, enshittification & everything fucking evil that @officialgrammarly.bsky.social is doing. I'm fucking furious, and not just about what 1 company has done. An open letter to Grammarly & the rest of the LLM hype machine www.moryan.com/an-open-lett...
This, 100%.
It's a path I take every day, thankfully no longer that painful.
The Impossible Times ebooks are on discount in the UK/US/Aus all month.
I'm very fond of these books (which are not YA). They're set in 80s London (my formative years and place) and have some very loose tie in with my other books.
They're relatively short - give 'em a shot!

2026-14. Mort, by Terry Pratchett - 4/5
A re-read, it was great but not perfect. I really enjoyed the focus on life/reality, and of course, DEATH haha

Book cover: a town half destroyed, being bombarded by airplanes; in the foreground there's a beach and the sea, and a young woman standing there
2026-13. All the light we cannot see, by Anthony Doerr - 5/5
Fantastic story set in WW2, following the lives of a blind french girl and a german boy, both suddenly dropped into a different world. The importance of doing good, of not conforming, things that are as important now as then!

Reading is a gateway drug to so many important aspects of adulthood like
Empathy
Critical thinking
Human decency

2026-12. Amongst our Weapons, by Ben Aaronovitch - 4.5/5
Also great! I loved them going to Manchester and Glossop, much closer to my neck of the woods, and then... babiesπ!
I feel he got his strength again, after a couple of "just ok" books in the middle of the Faceless Man story.

I really think lifeβs struggles can be summed up by one simple sentiment:
So many books, so little time.
A pink illustrated background with white polka dots. In the centre, handwritten black text reads: βThe amount of good things in your life depends on your ability to notice them.β Around the words are cute drawings including a smiling photo frame with two figures, a red book with a star, a bee, a butterfly, a yellow sun, a cat face, a pink flower, a steaming cup with a heart, a note saying βI love you!β, and a striped vase with a tulip. Picture by @joyfulsmolthings
βThe more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate.β Oprah Winfrey
The good is often already here.
In the smile, the sunlight, the small everyday moments.
When we notice them, they seem to multiply.

I loved Eliza Chan's Drowned World duology, Fathomfolk and Tideborn, they're great!

The Epstein files grant us a rare glimpse into the kind of machinations that must be happening all the time. As @bylinetimes.bsky.social reveals, Trump's fixer, Steve Bannon, helped Boris Johnson overthrow Theresa May. Blatant foreign interference in our politics. π§΅

Book cover: the usual graphic London map from this series' covers, this time green on black. I found this "glow in the dark" edition on a charity shop!
2026-10/11. False Value (+ A Dedicated Follower of Fashion), by Ben Aaronovitch - 4.5/5
Book 8 of the "Rivers of London" series (plus a short story in my edition). The plot is centered around a tech company and Peter goes undercover! It's a great connection of magic to the first computers

Sorry, I just had to "say it out loud", so to speak...
Probably sharing too much, but I worked in the office today and was very close to a meltdown π
Too many people, too many changes in my workplan, not enough breaks and general travel anxiety....
I've been sitting in the corner behind the sofa at home to "come back to myself", I'm feeling a bit better
The image shows a background of yellow, orange, red, and pink light beams shooting into frame from below. In the center of the image is a flying red dragon. Above the dragon are the words, "Presenting Fantasy-Faction's", and below the dragon are the words, "Top 50 SFF Books of 2025," both written in white.
Finally! Through snow & sleet, through broken water heaters & computer issues, we have prevailed! Our Top 50 SFF Books of 2025 is live!

Hi Jennie, it's in the settings under "Accessibility" and then "Mouse Pointer and Touch": I also had to change the colour to purple for the same reason!
This is so cute π
