In maths today we measured capacity by counting how many cubes we could fit in different sized containers!

Happy World Book Day from 1A!! #worldbookday 📚✨

Today we wrote questions we want to ask the man from the story, ‘Dinosaurs and All That Rubbish.’ He created factories and destroyed the world, so he could build a rocket ship and get to the star 🚀⭐️🏭🌏

We have been learning about Mass and Volume in year 1 maths. We used a balance scale and cubes to measure different objects we found in the classroom.

1A loved drawing their animal characters for their e-book on Purple Mash today. It was our first lesson in creating our own animated story online.

The year 1’s had a great time during our Artist in Residence session at the end of last term. We used boxes and elastic bands to create our very own instruments. We then made a recording of our music as a class!

This term we have been exploring colour in year 1, using paint. We have been learning about warm and cool colours. Yesterday we started to paint our sunset landscapes, inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe.

In year 1, we are currently doing our consolidation lessons in maths. This means we are revisiting previous lessons and completing new activities with different resources to further strengthen our understanding.

The year 1’s had a very special visitor this afternoon during our party. 1A got a marble run and 1B got play dough from Santa. We were very excited to tell Santa what we would like for Christmas 🎄🎅

We have been loving participating in DecemBAR in year 1. Today we used a bar chart to work out how many snowballs Max had after starting with 17 and giving Jo 6, after she had 0 ❄️☃️🌨️ @whiterosesociety.bsky.social

Today in Science, we carried out a simple comparative test to identify whether a material was absorbent or non-absorbent. We made our initial predictions and recorded the results, including how long it took for each material to absorb water.

The year 1’s have been learning about algorithms in computing. Today we followed the instructions to colour our bird in on Purple Mash.

We had a great time making our hummus today as part of our DT topic, ‘Dips and Dippers.’ It was delicious 🧑‍🍳👩‍🍳

This week in Year 1, we used our rights charter to focus on Article 15: the right to meet with others and join groups. We discussed the importance of this right and spent time joining groups with our peers.

In science, we gathered data and investigated which materials would float or sink. We worked in pairs to create a prediction and record our findings. 🪵🟢🥛🪨

We love using different digital tools for our maths lessons in Year 1 such as Polypad and WRM digital tools to reinforce our learning! 🧮🔴🔵🔟

Today, Year 1 became real life environmental heroes today! This was a lovely end point inspired by our English text ‘Stella and the Seagull’ by Georgina Stevens. They organised their own ‘litter picking party’ to clean up their local area. ♻️🗑️

The year one’s have been loving our DT topic of Dips and Dippers. We have taste tested dips and dippers, and are looking forward to going to the supermarket this week to get ingredients to make our own hummus!
