I don’t know if this is the reason, but it’s a fair one.
For those wondering, the Sounders have apparently always bussed to VAN but now mostly fly to PDX (I don’t know why). More interestingly, they’re flying commercial to Spokane. Apparently, the charter industry is squeezed such that it became prohibitively expensive for what is a 45-minute flight.
If you’re willing to fire your coach after three weeks, I don’t understand why you wouldn’t just do it in the offseason.
There are ways that FIFA and/or American gov’t entities can limit reselling, though. I just flatly reject the idea that lowering prices would have somehow led us to the same place.
All the markups go to private ticket sellers but that also assumes no o e is keeping tickets they buy from FIFA. Believe it or not, a lot folks just want to go to games not make money on their tickets
