Hey there! We are two nerds in a trench coat, coauthoring queer action/adventure and magical realism fiction with diverse representation. Come on in, ask us anything, and stick around for the stories! ALC Holfelder (they/them) SB Watson (she/her)

Amen! I *hate* chairs. I like couches. recliners can be fun too if they're cozy enough!
Editor Kala Godin has had to step down from this year's contest due to personal reasons. We hope she'll be back for the next #revpit event.
Writers, please check our editors' MSWLs if you need to make a new choice. We ensure we have good coverage across genres so everyone has plenty of choices.
A cover for a novel called βLife, Love & the Monongahela Murdersβ. The background is gunmetal gray in a gradient. The top word βLifeβ is in green, with a heart monitor pattern below it. The next word, βLoveβ, is below in red with red hearts beneath it. Finally β& the Monongahela Murdersβ is in blue below that with a blue knife underneath. At the bottom is a sketch of the Pittsburgh skyline, with the names ALC Holfelder & SB Watson beneath the skyline.
Pittsburgh detective Liam Turner, a trans man, must navigate the complexities of solving a serial murder while not falling β either into a corpse or for the aro/ace pathologist on the case β if he wants to get another killer off the streets of his city & prove himself worthy of his job & his life.π
I usually don't like 1st person. But I'm currently reading a really well done series, so I'm reconsidering my opinions. That said, I don't categorically *hate* 1st POV. Its just not a preference. But yeah, AO3 folks will pitchfork for 1st.
It *sucks*. Since I am fat as well, sitting in chairs for not-fat folks makes the fibro worse and then I'm just so uncomfy I can't be creative!
Are you a disabled author? Do you have something to say about writing disabled characters - or writing while disabled?
We want YOU at our upcoming virtual conference, Storycrafting Sessions: Disability in Writing!
LET'S PLAY A GAME
For every preorder I get today*, I'll post one picture + fun story of one (or more) of these magnificent floofs
*Draft2Digital isn't showing me preorders so you'll have to send a pic of your receipt if you order somewhere other than Kobo or Itch
Oh! That's a good one!
You sound a bit like me! I can get my writing in just about anywhere, but anyplace other than my couch is usually going to end up so uncomfy bc of fibro that I can't focus anymore.
You REALLY want to win this. Trust me.
Yes! it's the comfiest spot for me, and if i'm not comfy, my writing isn't nearly at its best
I'm usually curled up on our couch & ottoman with a lap desk pillow creature that's for crocheting but I use for my computer, and my pupper next to me. I can technically write anywhere, but many spots make me uncomfy real fast, which messes with my flow state. Couch=best.

*oh noooooooo*
I'm ready! I think...I hope...I pray...

Hiπ
Big goal this week is submitting to #RevPit! That's on Thursday. I think everything is ready to go for that, so I can mostly just coast til then. But I also want to work on getting new words down in #Cursed and maybe #WOTV as well. It's also a busy week, so we'll see!

From my philosophical godpunk WIP, "Laughter of the Hunted Gods." Our questionable "heroes" attempt a temple break-in.

Behold, a new blog post!
What's this? Two posts in two weeks? Is this a trend?
We shall see!
At any rate, here's some thoughts On Reading that I've been having since I started reading again (thank goodness).

Well this sounds like a new resource I need to go investigate. Thank you for that!!!
Okay!! I will let you know! We are in beta stages, but also pausing things because of RevPit. I'll get back to you once that's over and see what we need to do going forward! :)
Ahhh that's really helpful to hear! Yeah, I'm learning to trust that subconscious/what the characters are doing. I think Nix would 100% do what he's doing *right now* rather than wait some undetermined amount of time. It helps to hear that you've encountered that too!
Yeah, I tend to get bogged down in building things and forget that revelations are important to move the plot forward. I guess time will tell if this little (big) tidbit is well placed or not.
You're welcome! I really enjoyed this thread, and I love the sorrow in the lines. (ps, I think "them" is just fine here, and makes perfect sense to me)
Your prompts are so much fun to answer and keep me grounded in my characters/work in a good way!
My cowriter often edits after I've thrown the first round of words at the page, and her work *usually* involves adding in descriptors, dialogue, little bits of information that absolutely make the manuscript better.
I would agree that careless editing is not good for one's work. :)
How do you know when *too soon* is in one's story for things? I guess that's an editing question for draft 2. I tend to get distracted with character/worldbuilding things and forget to keep driving the plot forward, so things *feel* early even when they aren't. *sigh*

Thanks!! I'm excited and really hoping we can snag an editor. That would be so coo!
*laughs in genre confusion* #LL&MM is...well, I think we are settling on contemporary detective fiction w/ a queer atypical romantic subplot. Which is a MOUTHFUL. It teeters on Thriller, and sits nicely in action/adventure. The romance isn't *enough* to plop into a romance genre, but it is *there*.
No, same, though. I forget that m/f folks exist sometimes, especially in a purely Straight Way. I feel like ima get cancelled for that...
#QueerPrompts March 6: Free Friday or make up a text exchange between your characters
Max's big thumbs may be good at wiping away Nix's tears, but they're terrible at texting...
