Third, it has to do with his ability—he can see through lies and deception, and perceive the truth of things just by looking. I think that's why he prefers not to see too much. Keeping his eyes open probably ends up exhausting him.
Second, outside of work, he doesn't really care much about his surroundings. Even when he's listening to someone, he usually doesn't look at them. The only time he opens his eyes wide is when something genuinely sparks his deep interest. Normally, he's just staring blankly at the sky or the ground.
I often draw Akoh with his eyes closed, and a friend of mine seemed curious about why that is. There's no deep meaning behind it, really but I guess there are 3 reasons.
First, he's almost always incredibly sleepy.
