One of the reasons I left a job was because they decided I was paid too much based on where I lived (part of their DEI) and told me I'd never get a raise because of it. I had even took a huge cut to my usual salary to work there originally, because I liked the company.
It was common for me in at least two places I worked.
When writing about Property-Based testing, I found they were much more solid and comprehensive than usual tests, due to their more general (properties vs examples). They weren’t used because they felt more complex and time-intensive to write, despite being shorter and having to change them less.
