I received the sad news that Ian Forsyth passed away yesterday morning. Although he was ill it came as a shock to everyone. Ian will be well known to many birders in Yorkshire, particularly through his links to Tophill Low in the 70s - 90s as recorder and his work with the YNU.
Thank you British Birds. It was a very nice, and totally unexpected, surprise. Also many thanks to Zeiss for their continued sponsorship. The binoculars are great. 👍
Great to see Filey getting back its premier league status. Similar to the halcyon period 10-35 years ago when it regularly hosted top birds (and birders).
HUME'S LEAF WARBLER: Spurn
The Old Barn, Easington.
Present for it's 5th day. Not seen on this occasion. Heard giving a few calls initially. Forty minutes later it began calling regularly for a minute or so.

HUME'S WARBLER - Spurn
Easington Gas Terminal Woods. Showing and calling this morning [after playing hard to get yesterday - c/o Colin Bushell]. One of two birds in Easington Village at the moment and Spurn's third of the autumn thus far.

Spurn, Easington Lagoons.
Pectoral Sandpiper - been around for a few days.
Wow! A beast of a bird in the flesh.
Reserves manager Aidan was on BBC Look East last night with a clear warning about the impact of dogs off leads on nature, livestock and people. The piece featured stories from volunteers and the public about distressing dog incidents they have witnessed at Pegsdon Hills reserve in Bedfordshire.
Couple of Gatekeeper butterflies in my Beverley garden.
Full steam ahead Phil. See you at Spurn.
Yes. Russian slice leaves me with a hangover these days.
Sõrve Bird Observatory, Estonia.
Only one way to celebrate yesterday’s 18 Lesser Spotted Eagles and that’s with a piece of delicious cake. Gorgeous Honey Buzzard just gone over.
Very nice.
Great trip. More like an expedition. Full of highlights.
FIRECREST: Spurn, East Yorkshire early morning 020525 - close to the old Blue Bell pub. Singing its heart out. If you can't love a fire-capped king you ain't got no soul. A real beauty.

Congratulations. What a lovely pair - so to speak. 👏
EUROPEAN BEE-EATER: just above the SPURN Bird Observatory garden tower early afternoon. Complemented the glorious sunshine very nicely. Lovely sight and sound.

Hi Laurence, Sorry to bother you. Not sure if you’re in the country. Sent you an email yesterday. Unable to message you via Bluesky. Obviously New Year to celebrate first. Any chance you could contact me please? Kindest Regards. Frank
Can’t message you.
Hi Debby, Not sure if you’re in the country. Is there any way you or Pete could contact me please? Tried ringing etc. No luck. Cheers. Frank from Spurn.
Any chance you could message me please Jamie? Cheers.
Hume's Leaf Warbler [1cy]
18th November 2024
Spurn Bird Obs, Church Field. Trapped and released late AM. Rather vocal and showed nicely in the same area early PM. Two in less than a fortnight can't be bad.

Ring Colin Bushell. He’ll go through it all with you.
Used TinyTake to capture the XC file and saved it locally (on my laptop). Logged into Bluesky on laptop and created new post - uploaded the TT file (I think I used the media icon). That should do it.
Hume's Leaf Warbler: 5th November 2024
