I'm incredibly proud to announce the Fediverse Security Fund from Nivenly Foundation (@nivenly.bsky.social). It's a time-and-funds limited experiment, where they will pay for the responsible disclosure of high & critical security issues in open-source Fediverse software:

Reminder for those interested: first meeting of the #NivenlyJobCouncil (JSC) of the new year is 8 Jan 2025. The meeting will cover updates and plans of existing working groups and discussion for plans for the new year.

The WGs must also be relevant to the job search in some way, and this can include things like résumé and/or portfolio building, body doubling for a small group of people who are applying to jobs together.

Currently in our Discord, there is a brainstorming session for working groups that are focusing on providing specific tasks for job seeking assistance. The working groups can be started by any member of the JSC and require three members at a minimum.

Stewardship is important to us at Nivenly because we strongly believe in duty of care to community, and we believe that the title steward encapsulates this for how the role is applied.

And now the announcement: As people need time and space, and thus spoons, to plan their next steps after the US Election results we're cancelling the formal Job Seekers' Council meeting for this week and will resume next week. We will have an informal call for members to come, chat, and vent.

Try not to offer solutions, whether you have them or not, unless they're requested. Trauma is a complex beast and more difficult to navigate when active (as opposed to recovering from a traumatic incident that has occurred in the past, which has its own complexities).

When making space for others please make sure you are clear on what is needed from you: listening, empathy, troubleshooting?

Be kind to one another and recognize the trauma in communities other than your own. Especially if you're a member of an overrepresented group.
