I think my biggest issue with the “Potential Man” meme is that not every character is necessarily written to have their potential be fully realized

Gen 7’s and 9’s overall I would give a thumbs up towards, I’m even willing to say Decidueye and Meowscarada are some of my faves

But there are definitely a few starters where I have to admit to myself that I like significantly more than its compatriots

The thing I hate most about Final Starter Pokémon discourse is that I think fans can get unbearably corny when it comes to a lot of the newer ones but I can’t argue against them because I think I lowkey do agree that most of the best ones were through Gen 1-4

I’m sure Dandadan is good I really do but it is unfortunate that the only real thought I have towards it is “These fans sure are racist”

I think the original 151 Pokémon, and by extension Gen 2’s additional 100 Pokémon, are designed in a way that you don’t see often and I understand preferring that style
That said, any arguments that claims that later Gen designs are inherently bad almost always feels like it’s said in bad faith
