my headphones take is that more of you need to get bone-conductance-pilled, get yourself a pair of Shokz for any scenario where you arenโt going full over ear noise cancelling
each of them lock you in until finished iirc, and each of them have at least one unique major gameplay element that makes them a big departure from the base game experience, so if you hate that DLCโs Big Thing, obviously itโs gonna be a bad time and youโre absolutely valid in hating it
i love all the FNV DLCs very very much
but also, they each have like a 20% hater ratio and i completely understand why in each case, including your complaints about dead money
it's their entire schtick!
tested this out today (QP no ketchup no mustard add shredded lettuce, add Kroger knock-off mac sauce) and hypothesis fully validated, the ideal mcdonald's burger, no notes
It's a genuine issue! But also one with lots of uncertain variables (eg rates could rebound, or collapse even faster); that said I'm hopeful that society will figure out ways to muddle through it via policy and/or technology in ways that are compatible and respectful of modern, liberal rights
Just want to post that I appreciate you both posting through this because any time the topic comes up it (understandably!) short-circuits much earlier in the discussion
as often is the case, the tldr version is to tap the OWID sign:

in short, despite being better off than *the past*, we are still left with an overly tight housing market that forces us to spend the same share of income and get worse housing, or live further from the places we'd like, than the world *we otherwise could have been in*
that still feels bad, man!
we have ALSO severely curtailed housing production compared to a counterfactual scenario, through a combination of long-term zoning/regulatory restrictions and overtightening of lending post-GFC
my best effort at a synthesization is: we have bigger homes at lower interest rates with fewer people per household than in the past; people's median share of spending on housing tends to remain steady over time; AND YET
the housing issue is so fun* because there's many true statements you can make that at first blush seem in tension but in fact are not
*not actually fun
haven't listened to Jeff's work but yes, those are the types i meant. i still couldn't do them personally but i at least appreciate they're trying very hard to keep the barriers very clear and distinct
ethically might have been too strong a word on my part, i don't want to imply broad judgement. and yes, i've definitely seen some people do personalized ad reads where they're still being very diligent in distinguishing them as ads
at the end of the day the types of internet monetization to i'd (personally) feel ethically comfortable with and the types that generate livable revenue are almost non-overlapping circles
this doesn't top the list of reasons i'd never succeed as an influencer/creator but it does rank
this is also why i find brand deals especially off-putting, they are a way of infusing parasociality (derogatory) into advertising
the only exception is takiโs, theyโre delicious but i canโt handle an entire family size bag of citric acid. iโm not That Guy
basically have banished all chips from my apartment for a long time because yeah, theyโre all single-serving size to me
"government can't deliver so you might as well not pay into it" is nothing more than a suicide note for left and liberal governance
misson failed, or at least only semi-successful; we'll see if i can do better over the next weeks/months
i am myself a pc gamer and i assure you, we deserve it
If you're a PC Gamer, you--
havenโt played in over a year (pre-zip lines Iโm pretty sure) but this is a good game and you should play it if you like survival/city builder/supply chain games
