Public Safety Down, CEO Pay Up. Corporations Play “Rig the System”
To see how the game of “Rig the System” is played, consider the shameful corporate gaming of the horror of California wildfires that have been devouring lives and entire communities.
19 people died in a fire Edison admits it caused. Their CEO took home $14 million.
5% bonus cut was his "punishment." He still pocketed $14M — plus salary, stock, benefits. Customers now face a 10% rate hike.
This isn't a justice system. It's a protection racket.

Grassroots Activism Produces a “Mississippi Miracle”
Here’s something we don’t get to say very often: “Way to go Mississippi!”
Mississippi beat school privatization — unanimously. Governor wanted it. Lobbyists wanted it. Trump pushed for it. Every single senator voted no. Then they gave teachers a $5K raise. Grassroots organizing did that.

Jim Hightower is the leading example of a true advocate for Texans, for workers, and families all across the state — leading by his true values for a brighter future for everyone. It is an honor to have Hightower’s endorsement.

Jesse Jackson’s Most Consequential Power Was Not His Oratory, But His Vision
In 1988, I was one of only two white elected Democratic officials in all of America to endorse Jesse Jackson to be our party’s nominee for President.
Jesse Jackson could do something most politicians can't even imagine.
He got conservative dirt farmers and inner-city families fighting the same enemy: corporate profiteers running roughshod over us all.
That's not (just) oratory. That's vision. And it's exactly what we need right now.

Why Should We Allow Food Monopolies? Let’s Bust The System!
Massive retail chains like Walmart, Kroger, and Dollar Store have crushed thousands of local grocers. This has left millions of Americans living in “food deserts.”
Walmart, Kroger, and Dollar Store didn't beat local grocers through competition. They bought politicians to rig the rules.
Millions of us now live in food deserts. The antitrust law to fix it is still on the books—we just stopped enforcing it in 1980.

Who Were Those Masked Men? Feds Invade America!
As Americans learned decades ago when Ku Klux Klanners covered themselves from head to toe, the bigger the mask, the greater the evil hiding behind it.
30,000 Minneapolis volunteers are now trained "constitutional observers" policing the police. Whistle brigades rushing like Paul Revere to alert neighbors when ICE invades.
Tell your Senators: no DHS funding without ICE constraints, with @workingfamilies.org!

The great @jimhightower.com recalls his work with Jesse Jackson. When we talked to Hightower last fall, he said that Jackson in 1988 ran "the only intentionally racially inclusive populist campaign in recent American history."

CBS told Colbert he couldn't interview Texas Senate candidate James Talarico. Then told him he couldn't mention the ban. He did both.
Trump's FCC is threatening networks that give airtime to Democrats — while exempting right-wing talk radio.

When I endorsed him for President in 1988, I called my daddy the night before. He was not an overt racist, but neither had he led any civil rights marches — so I expected a smidgen of caution. Instead, he immediately exclaimed: "Well, he's the only candidate saying anything!"

One of the luckiest breaks in my life is that I got to work with and learn from #JesseJackson. The Reverend didn't just talk — he rallied a multiracial populist movement and actually led.

As Jim Hightower has said, there should be a Doug Jones that measures the wealth and welfare of the average person and not just the stock market propped up by the wealthy. The Dow Jones measures wealth of the richest 1% more or less, standard errors apply.

IMHO, seems like mega corporations target small communities to site AI centers and other environmentally harmful activities. Small town boards make agreements with the corps that include annual payments to the town. Is the money really worth it? Keep an eye on your local leaders!

Mark Zuckerberg is spending $600 billion to plop massive AI data centers in our communities. Meta already runs 26 of these monsters.
Now he's launched a multimillion-dollar propaganda offensive to crush local opposition. But us alley cats has these fat cats on the run.

We Can Always Trust What the Pentagon Says, Right?
Trump’s “Project 2025” autocrats are now rushing to slam an iron door of censorship on reporters trying to inform us commoners about the militaristic schemes and corporate fraud that come from inside ...
Pete Hegseth is banning media outlets and demanding military escorts monitor journalists. Dozens of outlets told him to stuff it.
Should reporters need military babysitters to do their jobs?

Even in a Digital Age, Handwriting Remains Invaluable
24 states – as varied as Mississippi and California– now require public schools to teach cursive handwriting in third-through fifth grades.
24 states brought back cursive writing in schools - and brain science backs them up.
Handwriting creates deeper learning & better retention than keyboards. The slower, tactile process engages more of your brain.
Maybe the old ways aren't obsolete after all.
