Another CAP is possible 🥕
The good thing is, CAP does not have to stay the same. It can instead:
- make sure every farmer in Europe deserves a fair chance, not only those backed by powerful lobbies;
- put social justice at the centre and support agro-ecological practices.
Sustainable farming? The EU is not impressed.
Another problem with CAP's funding mechanism is that sustainable farming practices like agroecology or multi-crops are just not rewarded enough. So not only does CAP damage competition in agriculture, but it fails to stop the destruction of nature.
The Culprit:
The core issue with CAP money distribution lies in the per-hectare funding - the more land a farm has, the more money it gets. This leads to an agricultural sector where small farms disappear, while the industry is consolidated into the hands of fewer and fewer mega-farms. Besides...

Up to 40% of CAP subsidies go to the top 1% of recipients. And the top 20% of recipients receive an average of 80% of the CAP money.
How is it possible that such a huge amount of EU tax money end up to the richest players in the agriculture industry?
