@nameshiv.bsky.social Sam Darnold runs like you had nine beers the night before and now they’re about to come out but if you can just make the sideline there’s some toilet paper there

Love "scroll hole"
I can't decide if this is horrifying or slightly hopeful.
sort of think it’s not even that, it’s that people, particularly younger people, have gotten used to eating something uniquely different every day and that’s hard to do with a single grocery haul
I wish there were more room in our lives for the idea that our identities are what they are for the moment. That might change, and it doesn’t invalidate what they were or what they become.
Wut. Going to Google. Worldview potentially destroyed.
Let’s run the government like a business, drive the car like a bicycle, and play the guitar like a piano
I've been wrestling for nearly a decade now with how we play a game where the other side recognizes no rules. I never get how people can be so sure of the answers : |
Similar to many polls in which most people think their own child's public school is good but Public Schools in general are in terrible shape.

Honest/practical prediction of the applicant's grad school trajectory:
() They'll shape your research program
() May not revolution your lab, but will Get. Things. Done.
() Perfectly solid student
() Won't break things; tons of potential with guidance!
() Can't guarantee they won't break things
I generally think that government should be hostile to corporations but if your business model is "we propel you through the sky at several hundred miles an hour" I want them FULLY up your ass at all times
I’d kill to see a McKinsey ROI case study on the NIH: “Imagine if we got all the hardest working, most self-motivated, brightest minds, at the peak of their careers to work for minimum wage round the clock for a decade. Project impact on GDP, assuming 1/1000 made a groundbreaking discovery.”
Bc I've mentioned fundraising, I'm going to put this here. The goal for this Giving Tues. for us is going to be increasing monthly donors. Monthly support is so helpful for keeping us stable. $5/month spread over hundreds of people is how we've stayed afloat for 8 years.

Dune has the same plot as the Westminster Dog Show: After generations of careful breeding, we have produced this perfect little freak of nature and now it has behavioral issues
If we going to have smart TVs, can we at least have keyboards and mice for them? Do I have to type everything in through a slow janky arrow button interface for the rest of my life like an idiot?

When I was 5, I loved science, which I took to be planets and magnets and chemicals and shit.
Soon I realized science was a collective human activity, and these were just the objects of its attention.
Anyway, whenever I read an OpEd on how science isn't political, I think "Are you 5 years old?"
An excellent clip from the 1986 Hollywood film “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” explains why raising tariffs on Chinese goods will hurt the U.S. economy.
In 1930 Republicans raised tariffs. As a consequence the U.S. economy suffered an even worse Great Depression.
Tariffs are taxes paid by consumers.
So much of the shit people say about trans women is so transparently them projecting their weird shit onto other people. “They get horny from being in women’s bathrooms!” Buddy that’s a you thing
Democrats will often look at something that doesn’t poll well and think “oh no, better move away from that!” but they’re getting their role backwards. parties influence public opinion. if you’re purely reactive, you’re just letting the GOP frame every debate.
“What radicalized you?” Bro I was told to treat people the way I would want to be treated in kindergarten and it made sense idk what else there is to say
A large sign at the Chiefs-Bills game that reads “Mahomes Eats Boneless Wings W/ Ranch” - a true testament to their heated rivalry.
Buffalo remains atop the hater standings. I respect it.

Quote from Greenwire article on Gaetz AG nomination: “Luckily all of our environmental laws are older than 18 years, so Rep. Gaetz shouldn’t have much interest in them,” said Brett Hartl, government affairs director at the Center for Biological Diversity, a frequent litigant in environmental lawsuits.
Wowwww
I’ve seen a lot of people allude to frogs in slowly heated water lately, and I need to TELL YOU about that whole thing, because, hoooeee, it’s a story…

You can get swab tests for cheap at the hardware store in the paint section. That's how I confirmed that my parents' old Franciscanware was contaminated.
Make sure it doesn't have lead in it!
Always 💖
Don't make me tap the sign
Lots of great stuff, thank you!!!
