Note there’s nothing preventing USPS from marking boxes of mail collected from routes or boxes with the date that bin was collected and postmarking them with that date days later at a central processing facility, with the assurance the mail has been secure in USPS possession since that date.
The proposed change is a terrible reduction in service. A postmark should prove an item was in Postal Service possession on the date it was applied at minimum. If RTO will delay postmarks further, USPS must provide an alternative: a mark the day mail is accepted at a local branch or from dropbox.
