Somewhat ironic. Churchill was an independent-minded, awkward ally. He relentlessly lobbied the Americans to back the 1953 coup that toppled the Mossadegh government in Iran, overcoming President Eisenhower’s initial belief that doing so wasn’t in the United States’ best interest.
