Even as a cynical scholar of rape culture, I'm shocked that this isn't the headline story on domestic politics everywhere right now. It's just an unfathomable abuse of power, in clear violation of the law.

GateBuster: Super Mario Bros. The next review card is in as Tim takes a look at THAT Mario movie!

Happy MARIO DAY! Here's one of the more fun and sillier things I've written, for @gatecrashers.bsky.social and their Blockbuster series, an ode to the video rental store. About the Super Mario Bros movie and the haunting memory of Dennis Hopper-as-King Koopa shouting GOOMBA!

Let's get this out of the way: This movie should not exist. HOWEVER,

I found Grammarly quite helpful for a while but once they instituted AI autosuggestions beyond real-time spell-checking and analyzing grammar, I deleted it, because it seemed pretty apparent the next step was stealing whatever we are writing with the plugin installed.

What are your four favorite books? I thought about it a lot yesterday instead of doing things I should have been doing and came up with these. Read into them however you like

Not to pat myself on the back, but I did spend some time condemning Disney vis-a-vis Marvel last year, and it's not gotten any better. Corporate, defensive, "noncontroversial" nostalgia slop all the way down.

Problem Child | Eli Cugini Pixar isn’t just dithering about diversityβ€”it has become visibly scared of children themselves.

probably the best examination of current-day Pixar I’ve read, very good stuff

I didn’t read Walking Dead and just started Chainsaw Man so I don’t get to enjoy that emotional roller coaster but I commend the boldness.

Chainsaw Man pulling a Walking Dead and just casually mentioning at the last minute β€œby the way it’s over” is pretty baller

Opinion | Humanity’s superpower shines through this iconic image Jack Kirby’s legacy shows how AI can’t mimic the creative power of human imagination.

From @postopinions.bsky.social:

β€œOnly someone who lived Kirby’s complex life could dream up universes full of nuance and wonder. Only a human imagination, forged by personal history, war, love, fear and triumph, could give birth to ideas so original and everlasting.”

Is it possible Arozorena was doing a pro-wrestling heel thing here for competitive fun? I didn't see any clip to hear his tne.

The DOJ spent years building a case that could have made one small part of life slightly less shitty. They had Ticket Master-Live Nation dead to rights. Open/shut case. But thanks to Trump, they just fork over the equivalent of three days' revenue and get to go back to making our lives shittier.

BLITZER: Did it reassure you at all that President Trump seemed to soften his previous assertion that Iran was actually behind that deadly strike?

WARNER: Yeah, I was glad to hear it

(This is not a thing that happened! Trump blamed Iran for the strike during his latest press conference yesterday!)

If you’re roughly my age, it’s wild to reflect on the optimism for the future Americans felt when Obama was elected β€” young Americans spontaneously took to the streets to celebrate! β€” and contrast with what we face today. The falloff over the past 18 years is hard to process.

Here’s the thing about Talarico: he’s been hammering this message for well over a year, even in his Instagram posted church sermons. He’s remarkably consistent and what’s even more important β€”authentic. His language of Christian leftist politics and social justice is clearly part of his beliefs

My purest moment of peace each day is inhaling the scent of my coffee and taking the first sip. No matter what is going on, for a brief moment it is just me and that warm mug. I always find that moment centering
