Hey, did you know that Shareshot is made by just two people: Mark and Marc? It’s confusing, yes, but MarK is the artistic one who also makes official posters for movies! 👇🤩

👆 Do this for all your favourite indie apps too. It’s not like there’s much else happening in January!

We're almost 18 months into the Shareshot release journey, and we have a feature roadmap that will easily keep us busy for the next 5 years… so thank you to everybody who is along for the ride!
We have closed out 2025 well on the way to a 2.0 release and without shipping any bullshit AI features! Perhaps in 2026 we’ll just have AI generate your screenshots for you. What could possibly go wrong?

Unless you’re growing as much as you did in the first year, this kind of thing is however painful to watch and very noticeable 😭
Still, we held above $1000 MRR.

Each major jump in annual subscriptions you get in year 1 due to advertising or featuring means a relatively large loss of subscribers 12 months later, as these users are often lower “intent” than users who find your app organically.
We then spent the summer sorting out our iOS and macOS 26 UI changes for Liquid Glass and come September, we shipped 1.4 with a cleaner content-centric UI and support for all the new iPhone 17 and Apple Watch models on day one.

May rolled around, and we got to ship version 1.3 with custom output sizes, AKA “Snell mode,” and some funky new striped backgrounds including our Pride and Solidarity backgrounds just in time for Pride Month and WWDC!

†: MRR means Monthly Recurring Revenue, the money made by selling subscriptions. This is before Apple fees, per-country sales taxes and RevenueCat commission. So the actual monthly earnings are more like 50% of that.

By mid-March we hit the “$1000 MRR†” indie app milestone, which is a first for my indie apps by a long way! It’s not a life-changing amount but it’s definitely progress.
A chart showing App Store Impressions for the lifetime of Shareshot. It looks like it has flatlined continuously except for the massive 1.5 million per day spikes in the middle.

2. Featuring in the Mac App Store home page kills all your stats. You get millions of impressions from people just opening the App Store app. This doesn’t move the revenue needle and now you have to exclude Mac data from all charts to be able to see anything meaningful.
This release led to some learnings about shipping Mac apps:
1. The market is obviously very small compared to iOS so it doesn’t generate much revenue by comparison, however Mac users seems to use the app more frequently than other users.
We also had a bunch of kind mentions from outlets including Stephen Robles on his YouTube channel. You should definitely check out his videos for great iOS and macOS tips.

We kicked off with our March 2025 release of Mac support with a macOS-specific UI adaptation, full menu support, keyboard shortcuts and new screenshot files detection. youtu.be/x9YQ-6OqmYE]...
🧵 While we’re working every spare moment on cool stuff for 2.0 that we hope to ship in Feb or thereabouts, here's a quick recap of what 2025 was like.
…yes we’re late but we were working on the app rather than all this “marketing nonsense”.
Screenshot of iOS Image playgrounds showing a caricature of me sitting at a desk in an impossible pose.
LMAO! Used Image Playgrounds to make an image of a desk, and then tapped myself by accident so it added me. I think I need to go to the chiropractor after this! 😂😂😂😂
You may be wondering what's going on @shareshot.app! Well we're working hard on the next release which is really starting to come together now. It just takes time to make the right the choices. Lots of iteration.
Hey sorry no we didn’t this year.
Apple's NameDrop feature is pretty cool except…
1. Nobody knows it exists
2. There's no UI while not using NameDrop to check what you are sharing (making it slow/embarrassing to do so in the moment)
3. Receiving a contact, they just disappear into Contacts with no "Recently Added" UI
Screenshot of Shareshot on iPad with the window controls actually there instead of auto hiding in such an annoying way you wanted to smash your iPad.
Shareshot 1.4.2 is in the App Store with handy bug fixes:
✶ Dragging out into another app will use the right file name.
✶ On Mac, the image title shouldn't disappear from the toolbar anymore.
* On iPadOS 26 window controls stay now stay, added "Format" menu, "Customize Toolbar..."
* iPadOS 26 window controls now show.
* "Format" menu is now on iPadOS 26 menu bar.
* "Customize Toolbar..." option is back on iPadOS
* The (...) menu on iPad now has "Add Screenshots"
* Dragging out of the app uses the correct file name.
* The title no longer disappears from the toolbar on Mac.
New Beta 1.4.2 for iOS is live, macOS Beta will be live once it passes review. No watermark in Beta (see bio) for a few days while we test this release.
Please tell us about any and all problems!
50233 exports since launch!
A nice little milestone for @shareshot.app in our TelemetryDeck stats! Over 50000 screenshots exported in just over a year. We noticed that due to an oversight we didn't count exports via Shortcuts for the first ~10 months so add a few thousand 😀

Shareshot 1.4.1 NEW * Bonus backgrounds for each of the new iPhone colours, exclusive to owners of the new devices! FIXES * A missing string for "fit" mode with auto-clear enabled was found. * The ugly "Save new name" button on the "add frame" screen was improved. * The Share button was missing in the share extension, turns out it was down the back of the sofa. * The "+" import button in the bottom center of the editing view on older iOS versions was unable to find its caption text. We pointed it in the right direction. * Shortcuts intents were not showing any Output Size options because something changed unexpectedly.
New @shareshot.app release 1.4.1 is available now with bug fixes and bonus backgrounds for everybody who is receiving the new phones!
Thanks to everyone who has been in touch about this release. We love your feedback!
When @viticci.macstories.net asked me on @appstories.macstories.net today how many macOS reviews I’d done, we both figured it was about 6. Turns out it’s been 9!
There are echoes of where macOS design was heading all the way back to Catalina - 7 reviews ago.

Sheesh, someone is impersonating me and reaching out to developers with the hopes of collaborating.
So sorry if you received this, but the email stephenroblespartnerships at gmail is NOT me.
@reneritchie.bsky.social Any way to report something like this?
