Itβs not about the first guy who does authoritarianism poorly
Itβs about the second guy who does it well
One of my favourite guys on here are the ones who doesnβt get that newspapers employ people to write on a number of topics.
Theyβre always like βgood to see the NYT Cooking section focusing on a carbonara recipe instead of the war in the Middle East πβ
A conversation I've had a couple of times goes like this:
me: "code review is dead"
whoever: "that's ridiculous, code review isn't dead"
There's a fundamental "is vs. ought" misunderstanding going on here.

I'm just gonna say it: Booker's proposal to end income taxes below $75k is idiotic. We've just crippled our state capacity and your response is a tax cut? Come on man
This is dire stuff and a whole lot of "I'm sure someone (else) is planning for that"

Very useful post from Bryan breaking down the challenges of growing engineers in the land of AI
If coding is your favorite part of software engineering, keep coding. AI doesn't stop you. But if coding was the only part you were good at, that's a different conversation. The job was always bigger than the code. #bransoncognac blog.bryanl.dev/posts/ai-sen...

I mean apparently it does. I honestly don't get it, I can't imagine being so opinionated about that I would throw a book away but clearly I'm far far from the target audience
I suspect Hegseth/Miller think a silent majority will rally to zero-sum nationalism (tariffs), treating all immigrants as criminals, and a kill-first-think-later military posture (what Hegseth calls the βwarrior ethicβ). It's a big deal that this isn't happening. 6/

I think they're opportunists but I'm not sure how knowing that changes my analysis of fascism etc
I think the point is that they will be used by it in the long run
