My fear… remains as it has always been

That Donald Trump is a stress test for Democracy… and if so… we’ve failed horribly

It’s not about the first guy who does authoritarianism poorly

It’s about the second guy who does it well

One of my favourite guys on here are the ones who doesn’t get that newspapers employ people to write on a number of topics.

They’re always like β€œgood to see the NYT Cooking section focusing on a carbonara recipe instead of the war in the Middle East πŸ™„β€

A conversation I've had a couple of times goes like this:

me: "code review is dead"
whoever: "that's ridiculous, code review isn't dead"

There's a fundamental "is vs. ought" misunderstanding going on here.

I'm just gonna say it: Booker's proposal to end income taxes below $75k is idiotic. We've just crippled our state capacity and your response is a tax cut? Come on man

it was always pretty imperfect even with the career ladders but at least there was some structure. I'm not sure how it would be rewritten today tbh

Trump’s war on Iran is taking place What's it like to re-read Baudrillard as bombs fall on Tehran?

I really liked this meditation on Baudrillard and war and I think @eliasisquith.blog has nailed a bunch of the dynamics.

Just signed up as an annual subscriber to The Necessary Fictions which is a good deal at $80 IMO.

AI Didn't Break the Senior Engineer Pipeline. It Showed That One Never Existed. Most organizations never had a model for developing engineers. They had an environment that produced growth by accident. AI just made the luck run out.

If coding is your favorite part of software engineering, keep coding. AI doesn't stop you. But if coding was the only part you were good at, that's a different conversation. The job was always bigger than the code. #bransoncognac blog.bryanl.dev/posts/ai-sen...

Cosmic Threads: A Solar System Quilt from 1876 A serenade to the universe in wool and silk.

Before universities opened their doors to women, one woman spent 7 years making a quilt of the Solar System to teach other women astronomy: www.themarginalian.org/2018/12/06/e...

there's all this stuff going around about how when novels first came out people couldn't comprehend fictionalized writing but now for the most part everyone does understand that concept. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, I think these folks are just being lazy af.

I suspect Hegseth/Miller think a silent majority will rally to zero-sum nationalism (tariffs), treating all immigrants as criminals, and a kill-first-think-later military posture (what Hegseth calls the β€œwarrior ethic”). It's a big deal that this isn't happening. 6/
