As a result of this article, I have decided to reenable Auto-Capitalization on my devices. We are so back.
i deleted all the automations on my ipad just in case. jumped into focus mode settings to se if that could be it... nope. a real puzzler. well, just have to hold out a little bit longer.
i don't usually use stage manager on ipados 26, the current release of the developer beta kinda requires it because of a kinda catastrophic bug in windowed mode (soft reset every time you minimize a window). every morning it auto. switches back to windowed mode and idk why

many of my idle thoughts (usually while my laptop with 64GB of ram tries to do anything like rename a word doc) are spent wondering how much my life would improve if I didn't have to use a Windows computer for work

it's like tuning into the NFL Network when ESPN is right there. ah, wait.
I get the criticism of MLS not producing virtually anything to fill Apple TV, but it's never been a better time for independent soccer media: blogs, podcast. MLS banned talent from talking about the referee strike, which imo ended the hopes for thoughtful analysis anyway.

oh yeah, the Apple TV "coverage will begin shortly" music sucks and loops poorly. my beloved MLS music. the b&w footage looks cool tho

our action item out of all this: let's all lobby Apple TV to lobby F1TV to switch to 4K60! ok thank you bye.
using the F1TV app's stream (which Apple TV subscribers can access), which is 4K50, the issue is eliminated. The HDR highlights looks great there. I think Apple TV basically feels it has to deliver it in this compromised way, with the way most TVs handle mode switching, there could be complaints.
Apple TV and ESPN's broadcasts are in 60fps, and the F1 TV source is 50fps. this means 10 extra frames are inserted throughout each second, which adds a bit of judder. on ESPN, it just looks like cars going fast. on Apple TV, especially on wide shots, those HDR highlights are distractingly flickery
logging back on from my iPad to remark about Apple TV's first F1 broadcasts, which are F1TV (Sky Sports' feed is only available live). these 4K HDR streams look great, but, oddly enough, the HDR part kinda magnifies what was essentially a non-issue when ESPN was broadcasting in 720p. let me explain:
