Yeah I know folks who want DST year round do not actually hate those of us who hate it, just like we don't hate people who prefer DST because that would rather have the sun up later than earlier

Non-writers are wondering why in the replies, and it's basically math. Authors typically make a few bucks or less /copy and even a Big 5 book can sell <10k and that might even meet expectations (depending). Like all things in capitalism, it's uneven, with a small minority of authors selling lots.
Just saw an ad left over from December announcing an Elf On The Shelf pop-up bar called "Cheers from the shelf" and I have questions
Mostly the ones you would expect but also:
"Elf On The Top Shelf," surely?
Folks who love DST and think that I should have to endure this bullshit all year round: please leave me alone about it. I will be jetlagged until November except worse because the clocks don't agree with the actual sun; I really don't need to hear about how I should have it even worse.
Every time someone says this I literally need to take a deep breath and remind myself that they did not say "I hate Annalee and think they should suffer."
I already have to put up with the clocks being out of step with my biorythms and the sun for seven months; no thank you to twelve
Why are we trying to lower the incandescent light bulb costs for assembly line manufacturers of the early industrial revolution
We're increasing our risk of heart attack to reduce costs for racist ghosts
The sun is real and clocks are fake
What if we all just refuse to do Daylight Savings Time
They can't make us, right?
I was in DC when he was elected and the whole city was in celebration. People were rejoicing and dancing on U Street. The feeling in the district was absolutely electric. I was high fiving total strangers as we passed.
I've never seen such community joy like that.
And I should probably add I'm not responding to that article going around about first vs third person and folks who only want to read one; I haven't read it yet
I'm literally just reading the Norsunder War books and I keep going "wait did she justβ? Damn I didn't know you could do that"
You know who's really good at juggling dozens of point of view characters is @sherwood.bsky.social
I've been reading the Norsunder War books and like mid scene or even mid paragraph she'll slip from one POV to the next but it works fine and it's almost never confusing who's head she's in
I mean I know people who would tell you they would prefer a different system to home ownership but 1. that is not the same as thinking that in the system we have right now it is wrong or bad for people to own the single home in which they live and 2. it's not a mainstream opinion.
I know The Atlantic is practically its own parody these days but lol @ "Mamdani's leftist allies malign homeownership"
lol you can't just spout some fringe nonsense like that as if it's a mainstream leftist opinion we live in a society
When all the other time travelers are busy killing Hitler, Iβm gonna take out Laura Ingalls Wilder.
*region that grows them, sorry Hawaii and Puerto Rico
Okay so I've only had US grocery store mangoes and I still think they're the best. Would eating a fresh mango in a country that grows them cause me to transcend the mortal plane?
A decent article about the #LostCanadian new option for people with Canadian ancestors.
There was someone approved recently 9 generations out from #Acadian displacement. If you can prove your Canadian ancestors, you can claim citizenship. It's not naturalization.

btw about that pixar thing, the reason why these people think having a conversation about gay people with kids is difficult is because they don't know a way to say to their kid "gay people are normal but you are not allowed to be one" without sounding like a bigot (there is a reason for that)
I spend a lot of time at the beginning of every project figuring out which POV/tense is going to serve that story. I'm aware many readers take an "I don't like mushrooms" approach to these tools, and that's fine, but it's not my job to try to guess whether there are more mushroom lovers or haters.
A dog show arena. Iβve got my large labradoodle on a leash in it and rather than performing the agility tasks that he clearly knows because we paid for our spoiled childβs education he decided to stick his head though the gate so he could be photographed by someone with a camera jus outside the arena.
We didnβt win, place, or show; but itβs all politics anyway.
Black people and Black people only: what do we know about Andrea LaFlamme?
Is she cool?
(Paging the one Black person deployed to the Maine outpost! Stop ice fishing with the locals and answer me!)
This is me. I loved that show at the time. I'm not going to act like I didn't just because Whedon is an asshole.
But I think the conversation has moved on in ways that would mean a reboot would be constrained by, rather than buoyed by, its origins.
A network should simply make a tv show of @valerievaldes.bsky.social's Eva Innocente series.
You can like something and think a lot of it is pretty good and still hold the opinion that it had its day and we donβt need more of it now
I could be wrong but I suspect he'd be owed residuals
But also
Look I was obsessed with firefly
but yeah it's best left in the past
it's SO GOOD
Disco Space Opera is such a good call, here.
WAYFARERS exists.
So does DISCO SPACE OPERA.
And I can name like fifteen authors who could write to the brief without being gross and creepy about it before I ran out of breath and had to pause
look if folks are wanting to produce a show about a ragtag crew in a big scary universe I have some suggestions that won't involve giving a shitty dude money for the privilege of revivifying something best left in the past

It is 2026 and we are not fucking doing this anymore. EIGHT WOMEN came forward and told stories of Franken GROPING AND FORCIBLY KISSING THEM. The man was a sexual abuser. He did not and does not belong in congress. Fucking period. End of conversation.
