I see heโ€™s still saying โ€œexcursionโ€ instead of โ€œincursionโ€ โ€ฆ
โ€ฆpresumably because he misheard the first time and no one has had the balls to correct him.

A great interview from @henrymance.ft.com - worth going back to read the original from 2016 as well. So many great lines, I struggle to pick one butโ€ฆ

Could we get Duffyโ€™s view on this idea?

Iโ€™m curious if sailing through the Strait of Hormuz is more or less dangerous than riding the NYC subway?

Is his defense here that he didnโ€™t need any books - he just needed to know the EO said โ€œno DEIโ€ and these grants had DEI-related language in their descriptions?
Is that really what heโ€™s arguing?

I mean even โ€œMossadโ€ would be a plausible โ€œconcernโ€ here.

BTW, I really enjoyed the FT Live session you had this morning with @edwardluce.bsky.social , @gideonrachman.bsky.social , Alec Russell, & Kim Ghattas. Super informative all round.

Also, I think I need to go buy Kimโ€™s book just to better understand the Iraniansโ€™ mental model here.

AIS Destination is often wrong because itโ€™s a manually input field.

How unusual is it to use it this way?

I donโ€™t know but AIS has only been around since ~2000 so this might be the first time anyoneโ€™s had to use it to communicate a โ€œDonโ€™t shoot me!โ€ message.

What was here before?

Hereโ€™s the same corner 89 years ago. The caption indicates the cleared area and the 4 story building on the left (basically the same footprint as Cohenโ€™s pile) were demolished to make room for a โ€œ1-story garageโ€.

โ€œYou have to have an ID to get Federal benefitsโ€

So either:

โ€œhaving ID prevents fraudโ€

Or

โ€œThere is a benefit fraud epidemicโ€

Which is it? Because it seems it canโ€™t be both.

Yes, andโ€ฆ
โ€ฆthe โ€œIDโ€ in all of those examples, except โ€œFederal benefitsโ€, is a government photo ID - *not* proof of citizenship.

Standard MO for the TACO is:
1. Create fictitious victory story.
2. Take credit for the fiction.

So something like:

โ€œWe totally obliterated them. They called me begging for a deal. I have decided to stop crushing them for 2 weeks while they make their best offer. Weโ€™ll see what happens.โ€
