--out of the sails of my erstwhile "religion bad" stance was a) learning about the homophobia & transphobia of the USSR and China, both atheist nations & b) brushes with Twitter atheists who were also raging bigots: some people will be bigoted sacks of shit regardless of spirituality/lack thereof.

I suspect that part of why atheism is less prevalent (or at least less loud) among POC is because they're under a lot of pressure to follow their cultures' traditions as a reaction to oppression by white christians. Cohesion in response to external threats can be a mixed bag.
What knocked the wind--

This puts me at 10 people released. I filed my 1st habeas petition 29 days ago. I am an incredibly small-time, nobody lawyer who knew nothing about immigration law the day I submitted that case. I barely know any more today. I had never sued the federal government and now I've beaten them 10 times.

The danger to my job from AI isn't that AI can do my job, it's that my job is made even more precarious by the way AI is shaping ideas of the value of work. It can't do my job, but it can be part of convincing people (incorrectly) that my job isn't necessary.

Something that turned how I think emotions on its head was learning that in some languages (specifically German in my case), you say "I have [emotion/feeling]" as opposed to English's "I am [emotion/feeling]". Language informs our thinking in more ways than we ever account for.

I say this every year, but:

The uni students I'm teaching are thoughtful, intelligent, will make everything they encounter better.

With a new addition for 2026:

They deeply hate AI.
