Dismantling NCAR will "set back the scientific field for decades" internationally, he says. "The international scientific community look to the United States as leaders in the field of weather and water and climate - and we are stepping back from that."

On accusations from the administration that NCAR peddles "climate alarmism", he says:

"We are physical scientists, not political scientists. And we respect that boundary."

Bucalacchi stresses NCAR's reach is unique globally: "if you look at the totality of activities from weather, water, climate, space, weather, atmosphere, chemistry- no one single institution covers that breadth and depth of across observation, high performance computing and modelling and tradition."

"We are talking about setting back science in ths country for decades," Busalacchi stresses

"In our field you cant separate measurements from models," Busalacchi says.

He notes there is a scientific loss and an ecomomic loss attached to separating out NCAR activities, he says.

After Kemi Badenoch pledged to extract every last drop from the North Sea, we've been engulfed by waves of long-dead zombie factoids.

"Four times cleaner" is one of the silliest.

It seems like an age ago now, but back in 2020 I worked on an op-ed for @businessgreen.bsky.social from @kemibadenochmp.bsky.social where she explicitly backed net zero

It states she is "proud" the UK is the "first major economy... to legislate to end its contribution to global warming by 2050"

That's a *chef's kiss* of a community note, though.
