What I do know is that a respected Nobel Laureate has cheapened an honourable award and, in doing so, lost the respect of many people, including, I suspect, the people who awarded her the prize in the first place.
If he does back her, which seems unlikely given his support for Maduro's vice-president, does she really think she will be able to govern without his interference, without him calling in favours, without him demanding oil? I don't, but that is just my opinion.
Unfortunately, I find it hard to give her the benefit of the doubt, that she is anything but another toady who traded in her integrity by currying favour with a tyrant in order to gain power.
No doubt he now will be calling himself a Nobel Laureate and insisting he be recognized as such. Machado, I would like to give her the benefit of the doubt and assume that she saw this as a means to an end: flatter an egomaniac, and he will come around and support her as the Venezuelan leader.
What can I say? The felon has his Nobel Peace Prize, and psychopath that he is, firstly, he accepted (and not from the Nobel Committee, I might add) what is now and will always be a tainted award, and secondly, he will act as if having the medal means he is somehow deserving of it.
