βThe EAβs own plan accepts that the Wye will not recover under current approach. When the law requires action, regulators cannot...postpone hard decisions yet again. After years of delay & continuing damage to a protected river, that is no longer lawful.β Fish Legal πͺ

Dirty water, death and decline: the inside story of a privatisation scandal
There is no end in sight to the pollution caused by a βbrokenβ system. Experts say it could even be getting worse
βProf Pedro Arrojo-Agudo, UN Special Rapporteur on the human right to clean water, has singled out the English system for criticism, saying water should be managed as a publicly owned service, rather than run by private companies set up to benefit shareholders.β

Race to find source of carcinogenic Pfas in Cumbria and Lancashire waters
Exclusive: High levels of banned βforever chemicalβ have been detected in rivers and groundwater at 25 sites
It's still a shock to find a new PFAS forever chemical hotspot, even when it's inevitable. A bit of digging around paper mills, which often use PFAS, revealed the banned carcinogen PFOS at levels as high as 3,000ng/l in groundwater in south Cumbria

There is huge local effort in North Herefordshire to tackle agricultural pollution in the Wye & Lugg - but we need proper government support for the solutions local people want: farmer-led landscape recovery projects; more funding and teeth for the EA, and a WPZ for the Wye.

Policy must be based on evidence to be effective β so why, given agricultural pollution makes up 40% of the pollution in our waterways, did the governmentβs Water White Paper dedicate only a single page to addressing it?
