Wait the smaller truck is even more effective at the job? WTAF.

And this is why we can’t have safe streets?

The thing about Zohran doing this is that he may not get immediate credit from Jewish organizations, but telling these psychos to fuck off and thus polarizing his own broad left-wing coalition against them is in and of itself beneficial.

When this is all over, on top of all of the other reforms, we need laws that explicitly ban the aesthetics of fascism and criminalize attempts

Stop insisting they have some complex internal life that can lead them to be better people. If they could be better people, they would be.

It's so easy to see that they are fundamentally wicked and/or stupid! That's why they are the way they are. It's in their nature.

Powell has spent his career decrying the "cancellation" of race scientists, climate deniers and bigots, arguing that their substantive views were less important to the threat to free speech their punishment represented.

When it comes to Khalil, though, his (alleged) views are front and center.

I analyzed the Proud Boys donor list. The most common occupation was real estate (realtor, mortgage broker) β€” the same parasitic class that was over-represented among Jan 6th rioters.

This is an incredibly stupid idea that will principally function to defund the welfare state and public schools.

"The purpose of a system is what it does" is often not a great heuristic, but it's hard not to look at the output of DOGE and wonder if they were optimizing for the most harm they could possibly inflict without improving efficiency or costs. Moneyball for utility monsters.

Time, energy, and political will are finite resources. Every year spent cracking down on short term rentals and passing vacancy taxes is a year when policymakers fail to address the housing shortage that is actually causing high housing prices.

The sad part is that the US did learn from the energy crisis. We were developing alternatives and pouring money into renewable energy. But then Reagan was elected and we did a 180 turn.

Good morning. Someone is always going to make money on housing.

Personally, I think it is better for developers to make money building new homes for people to live in than for landlords and homeowners to continue getting rich off of artificial housing scarcity.

Sacramento weighs new short-term rental rules as debate grows over housing vs. tourism New moves have been made to support more permanent housing in Sacramento, but some fear it could put some short-term rentals like Airbnbs out of business.

The share of Sacramento's housing stock that is a fully dedicated to short-term rentals is a rounding error, a fraction of a percent. This isn't about housing affordability and it's funny how many people involved are pretending like it is.

Jones Act Waiver Talk Highlights the Law's Costs The Trump administration’s consideration of Jones Act waivers exposes the law’s costs and the hollowness of its national security rationale.

Although the Jones Act is "routinely defended as essential to national security, [waivers of it] are often floated precisely when a genuine national security crisis or economic emergency arises.... Why do we keep it in place during times of peace? Why keep it around at all?" [Colin Grabow, Cato]
