News! The European Tracking Network just logged its 1,000,000,000th detection! ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŸ
Since GPS doesnโ€™t work underwater, telemetry is a key to help us understanding fish movements, essential for conservation and management.
Huge thanks to everyone uploading data - great teamwork! ๐ŸŒŠ

The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences launches large-scale fish tracking โ€“ aiming to provide new insights about fish in the Baltic Sea SLU has deployed 80 acoustic receivers along two lines in the Baltic Sea. By listening for signals from tagged fish, the receivers will reveal migration routes and uncover new insights on life beneath...

FINALLY! ๐Ÿฅณ

A Baltic Sea Tracking Network is on the way!! Thanks in part to a receiver loan from @oceantracking.bsky.social members of ETN based at SLU & LUKE (Finland) have deployed what we hope is just the beginning ๐Ÿ’ช

I used adaptive importance sampling & mixture distributions to position fish in environments prone to tag reflections. Mixed with post-processing, this gives great tracks!

Struggling with code collisions? Increased Residency (IR) Coding can help.

Increased Residency is a free tag coding that leverages NexTrak receivers to increase residency limits, boost detection rates up to 5x, and lower code collisions in high-tag-volume areas.

Commentary: Project 2025 spells disaster for oceans and coasts in a changing climate Project 2025โ€™s authors and contributors โ€” a whoโ€™s who of fossil fuel industry insiders and climate denialists โ€” have proposed policies that paint a terrifying future for the ocean and the milโ€ฆ

When I wrote an op-ed during the campaign saying that Project 2025 called for the near-total elimination of NOAA and that ocean scientists should therefore oppose Trump and support Harris, senior scientists in my field called me alarmist and hysterical and unprofessional
