Walking back to the car from shooting the sandpiper and Snipe I had to give the right of way to a nice sized Tiger Snake with a belly full of frogs. It's pretty rare that in summer I dont see a snake here at the WTP. Photo of a long Australian Tiger Snake with bright yellow belly colour.

Wed I spent the day out at the Western Treatment Plant (aka Pooh Farm). While photographing a Pectoral Sandpiper, a Latham's Snipe popped out of the low salt bush and fed right in front of me. After several mins, wandered into the scrub behind and vanished. Photo of a Latham's Snipe, a migratory bird from Japan that enjoys the Australian summer.

there's another good photo in the batch: 1/2-140293-G, shows another angle, same day and the same people, including the photographer. the other lady is the sister. pretty cool trying to nut this out. I love old photos.

Interesting Mark, looks to me like a black man with a banjo in his lap teaching a young white woman, the other woman is a chaperone, all being photographed by a man placed in that position, the subject is the lady in white. The other photographer could be shooting the napping chaperone, head tilted.

I am lucky enough to have a pair stop for a few weeks over winter at my family farm in Moorooduc, Vic. I also find them along fencelines near open fields near forests. Fairly common bird in the right areas over winter

An immature Black-shouldered Kite. Adults are pure white with grey upper and black shoulders. No threat to the ducks below preferring mice and insects. Ready for the evening hunt it stretched then waggled, rising on the breeze.

One of the many Rainbow Lorikeets attacking a Flame Tree in my backyard. I had Lorikeets, Cockatoos and Corellas feeding on the flower buds, the nectar and the large seed pods of the tree doing the day with Fruit Bats/flying foxes taking the night shift.

its been a bit warm lately for too many visits but I did notice yesterday a pair of Australasian Grebes that were circling each other - hoping love is in the air.

must be strange going from a heatwave back to winter...maybe a nice change from the heat.

why? camera/lens combo too slow, birds too quick or too wary? lighting? trees in the way? you may have been spoilt by how easy it is to shoot the birds locally....congrats on the lifer, you are supposed to get a tattoo of the bird now or at least have a drink and dessert to celebrate.

An image of the tiny multi-coloured wetlands bird, the Baillons Crake, taken at my local wetlands: Yalukit Willam Nature Reserve. The reserve is only a few years old and is a converted 9 hole Golf course.

The resident Baillon's Crake at the Frog Pond in Yalukit William Nature Reserve. There are now between 3-5 of these tiny birds at the local reserve.
