Since the time I was a PhD student, I've always found the annual #LinguisticLandscape workshop to be a welcoming, almost familial space. Where else can you enjoy a mother-son talk, like today's "Collapse and transformation of Jefferson Street in Nashville Tennessee" by Becky and Nick Garvin? ❤️ #LL16

I can't be at @ll16-ude.bsky.social in person today, but my co-author @janapithan.bsky.social will present our work on posthuman linguistic landscapes tonight. If you are interested in voices in the linguistic landscape and the agency of trash cans, come and see Jana at our poster!

That's why we're asking you to please bring a laptop and an appropriate HDMI and/or VGA adapter. Also, for our international participants, beware of EU plugs. You might need an adapter for charging your laptop's battery as well.

The authors further note that "[t]he positive valorisation of Ruhrdeutsch and its use as a regional symbol are also visible in the linguistic landscape of the Ruhr Area.

For instance, the city of Essen has started using the regional attention-getter Hömma/Hör mal ('Listen') ...

In line with historical structural changes in the area that beautifully fit our conference theme, positive attitudes towards the local linguistic variety have emerged, with "Ruhrdeutsch becom[ing] an anchor point for [the locals'] own regional feeling [of home]" (Ziegler & Angenendt 2024:164).

Hömma! Schön datte da bis!

Ruhrdeutsch is the regional dialect spoken by the locals in the Ruhr Area (sometimes also referred to as the "Ruhrpott"), where #LL16 will be hosted.

The next general update will be in early August, when we will publish the digital conference booklet, which will contain abstracts, tech notes, wayfinding help, and more. Stay tuned!

The semi-final (we're optimistic, but also realistic) version of the #LL16 program is now available!

You might also notice some more updates to our website, particularly dedicated to our Art and Transformation session on the final conference day.
