Unfortunately not going to make it to WWDC this year. I’m really going to miss catching up with everyone and all the buzz throughout the week. Hope you all have an amazing time and I can’t wait to see your reactions on Monday!

Thanks for the heads up! Unfortunately the Nano team stopped publishing RPM packages for node releases a while ago and I haven’t had the time to migrate away yet.

#SwiftStudentChallenge submissions are open!
& without @typ0genius.bsky.social I’d never know the rules and changed infos.
Xcode App Playgrounds will only be tested in simulator, mine is an Xcode App Playground but I need it to run on a real device. So I need to make sure it runs on iPad app!

#SwiftStudentChallenge submissions are open until Feb 23 - I highly recommend giving it a shot! Participating was always an incredible learning experience, even when I didn’t win.
I’d love to hear all about your submission once you send it in!

Anyone found a website in the wild that lets you actually replace your password with #passkeys?
All the ones I set up a passkey for still keep the password as the primary means of authentication. And 1Password’s passkeys.directory doesn’t seem to indicate that functionality either.

For those of you following along with #AdventOfCode, you're probably groaning as you refresh your memory of regular expressions! Unless you're using #Swift, which has this lovely mini-DSL for expressing them. The two expressions below are equivalent, and Xcode can help you convert from the former.

Paul creates some of THE best learning materials on Swift and all things iOS dev. On the off chance that you don’t know his work already, you should definitely check it out!
(more than 8 years of Swift experience - I still find myself on hackingwithswift.com all the time)

Photo of the road leading to the Cap de Formentor lighthouse on Mallorca. Blue sky, sun reflecting in the ocean on the left side, and mountainous terrain on the right.
Process Zero is the 🐐 for iPhone photography!

Photo of city lights during sunset, shot out of the window of a small airplane. The city lights reflect in the underside of the aircraft wing.
nothing beats watching sunsets from an airplane for me (especially if it’s a small one!)

A screenshot from our blog post that reads as follows:
Modern UIKit
Most people didn’t expect us to dedicate a series of episodes on “Modern UIKit” in the year 2024, but that’s exactly what we did. SwiftUI may be all the rage these days, but that doesn’t mean you won’t occassionally need to dip your toes into the UIKit waters. Whether it be to access some functionality not yet available in SwiftUI, or for performance reasons (UICollectionView 😍), you will eventually find yourself subclassing UIViewController, and then the question becomes: what is the most modern way to do this?
Our “Modern UIKit” covers a variety of topics to help you modernize your usage of UIKit and get the most out of the framework. This includes how to use Swift’s powerful Observation framework with UIKit (including the @Observable macro), state-driven navigation that looks similar to SwiftUI (including stack-based navigation), and bindings for UI controls. By the end of this series we can write UIKit applications in a style that looks quite similar to SwiftUI and removes a lot of the pain when dealing with UIKit.
No one asked for us to do a “Modern UIKit” series, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t exciting things to cover! UIKit is incredibly powerful, and with Swift's observation tools we can build features in a style that is reminiscent of SwiftUI.
