but recently I found a pretty clean solution - bake positions to a texture instead, then bake the distances between them as a heightmap

honestly might not be the fastest shader effect, but it cuts the total triangle count in half and eliminates a draw call so I think it’s worth it!

on my first attempt to do this, I discovered that baking height between objects in blender has been broken for years, and the only suggested workarounds at the time were really inefficient

She's wearing a dark gray jacket, which has been made semitransparent along with her skin, allowing you to see her internal components. The materials have transparency overlap turned on in blender - this causes some visual bugs that make her internal parts render in the wrong order. I thought it looked cool. The lighting and background is mostly light gray, with very subtle blue and pink lights.
